Ascension brought an ambitious science-fiction mystery to Syfy with the story of a secret space mission launched by the United States in 1963. Hundreds of men, women and children were sent aboard the starship Ascension on a century-long journey to populate a new world, creating an isolated society generations removed from Earth.
Nearly 50 years into the mission, the murder of a young woman threatens to expose secrets about the voyage and forces those aboard to question the true purpose of their journey. The six-hour Ascension event series originally aired across three nights on Syfy beginning December 15, 2014.
The Ascension cast is led by Tricia Helfer as Viondra Denninger, Brian Van Holt as Captain William Denninger and Brandon P. Bell as Oren Gault. The ensemble also includes Gil Bellows as Harris Enzmann, Andrea Roth as Dr. Juliet Bryce, Tiffany Lonsdale as Emily Vanderhaus, Ryan Robbins as Duke Vanderhaus and Jacqueline Byers as Nora Bryce.
Created by Philip Levens and Adrian A. Cruz, Ascension combines a murder mystery with a larger science-fiction conspiracy surrounding the mission and the people responsible for it.
