Hillman College will be back in session. Netflix has renewed A Different World for Season 2, continuing the sequel series led by Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
The renewal arrives just over a week after the new series premiered on September 24. Its first season entered Netflix’s English-language TV Top 10, and showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride credited viewers’ response for the quick pickup. What Is A Different World Season 2 About?
According to Netflix’s renewal announcement, Deborah and her classmates will return to Hillman for sophomore year after summers that have changed them. Their fresh starts will be complicated by decisions from freshman year, uncertain plans for the future, new relationships and friendships that continue to evolve.
Pride says the new season will address several questions left open at the end of Season 1. Netflix has not detailed how those storylines will unfold, so viewers waiting for answers about Deborah’s relationships and the rest of the Hillman group will have to wait for more information.
Moon leads the new generation alongside Alijah Kai as Rashida, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, Chibuikem Uche as Kojo and Cornell Young IV as Shaquille. Season 1 also brought back Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy as Deborah’s parents, Dwayne and Whitley, along with other familiar Hillman alumni. Netflix has not released a separate Season 2 cast announcement.
When Will A Different World Season 2 Premiere?
Netflix has not announced a Season 2 release date or production schedule. For now, all 10 episodes of the first season are streaming on Netflix.
The sequel is run by Pride, with Debbie Allen returning as an executive producer after directing the Season 1 premiere. The sophomore-year premise gives the new Hillman class more time to develop its own friendships and ambitions while carrying forward the history that made the original series meaningful to viewers.
