TBS’s ARE WE THERE YET? Arrives as First Comedy Hit of the Summer

TBS’s new original comedy series ARE WE THERE YET? debuted Wednesday in a big way with 3.2 million viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49 for its 9 p.m. (ET/PT) premiere episode, according to fast national data from Nielsen Media Research. The second episode at 9:30 p.m. built on that success, with more than 3.3 million viewers and 1.7 million adults 18-49, ranking it as ad-supported cable’s top sitcom telecast for the year to date. The 9 p.m. episode ranked a close second. ARE WE THERE YET? also performed well among adults 18-34, with the episodes each scoring more than 700,000 viewers in the demo.

“We’ve built a Wednesday night lineup that delivers a young, diverse audience,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “ARE WE THERE YET? is a promising addition to a strong schedule that already features the hits Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns.”

ARE WE THERE YET? stars Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) and Essence Atkins (Half and Half) as Nick and Suzanne, a newly married couple whose blended family faces the challenges of everyday life. From dealing with the complexities of being newlyweds to weathering the storm of teenage children, this series is packed with relatable moments for all families. Telma Hopkins (Family Matters) plays Nick’s mother, who isn’t happy about his marriage nor her new role as grandmother. Keesha Sharp (Why Did I Get Married, Too?) is Suzanne’s best friend, who has a taste for men and the finer things in life. Comedian Christian Finnegan plays Nick’s best friend and owner of a sports memorabilia store. And Ice Cube (Boyz n the Hood), who also serves as producer, plays a recurring role as Suzanne’s SWAT officer brother.

ARE WE THERE YET?, which will continue to air with back-to-back episodes Wednesdays at 9 and 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT), comes to TBS from Debmar-Mercury, Cube Vision and Revolution Studios. Revolution’s Joe Roth and Vince Totino and Cube Vision’s Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez serve as executive producers, along with award-winning show-runner Ali LeRoi, who won an Emmy(R) for his work on The Chris Rock Show and an NAACP Image Award for Everybody Hates Chris.
