Season 6 of THE 100 does not waste one-second jumping right back in where it left off in the Season 5 finale. In the final scene of Season 5, Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) stood side by side, as they contemplated the new planet that Monty (Christopher Larkin) and Harper (Chelsey Reist) had spent the rest of their lives searching for in hope to provide a home for their son Jordan (Shannon Kook), Skaikru, Grounders, and the Eligius 4 survivors. Season 5 had quite a high body count, but those who did survive fled to Eligius 4, and hoped to awaken from their cryogenic sleep in time to find Earth habitable again. Alas,125 years later and Earth was still a wasteland. It had sent Monty and Harper fleeing into the stars, with everyone else still cryogenically frozen, until they safely made it to Planet Alpha, where Eligius 3 had been sent over 200 years earlier.

The overarching theme of the entire series has always been survival. First, it was fleeing Earth to evade the nuclear apocalypse that A.L.I.E. had unleashed, which sent survivors fleeing in 12 space stations, which later became the Ark, into space for the next 97 years. Season 1 followed the Ark’s tentative steps to return to Earth, only to discover that there were already survivors living there. Season 2 and 3 were the subsequent battles for control and leadership on Earth. Season 4 was the fight to survive yet another ground-scorching Praimfaya that sent everyone underground and temporarily fleeing back into space. Season 5 was the emergence from their various “cocoons” to fight for the last remaining habitable parcel of Earth, only to destroy it and be forced for a third time back into space just to survive. But this time, Earth remained uninhabitable and a search for a new planet took them to the very planet that Eligius 3 had sought. Deemed planet Alpha, those on Eligius 4 have yet to discover if it be the home they have long searched for — will it be welcoming or another fight to survive?
Safe to say that it will be another fight to survive, so be prepared. They are. After all, their entire lives have been about that one thing: survive — no matter what the cost. They have fought their own souls and humanity to survive and the personal cost has been steep, and none of them are blameless and without blood on their hands. This will be a recurring issue that hovers over each of them, and just because they have been asleep for 125 years, does not mean they have forgotten that they were at war with each other just seconds before they were forced to leave Earth.
Old wounds, slights, threats, grudges, fears and feelings of resentment are all there waiting to be unleashed just as soon as each person emerges from the cryo-tubes.
Monty had chosen carefully when he instructed his son Jordan to wake up Bellamy and Clarke first. Monty knew better than anyone that it should be them to decide who wakes up and when, as there may not be time and resources to wake everyone up all at once — even with a shiny, new planet before them. Just who Clarke and Bellamy choose is telling. It will be those who they trust with the fate of the human race and their own safety as they venture to this unknown new planet.
Planet Alpha is extraordinarily beautiful, but it is also extremely dangerous. As previewed, a future untold-horror is unleashed. How will they survive it? What causes it? Is anyone immune? How has those living on Alpha survived so far? Just what darker secrets does Alpha hide?
Since this is THE 100, expect death around every corner. It comes swiftly, it comes fast and it comes mercilessly. Yet even with death ready to strike, there will always be moments that instill joy and levity. Life demands that love and laughter balance the darkness of fear and uncertainty, and THE 100 knows perfectly well how those elements make tragedy a bit more bearable. Be prepared for horror and tears, and be prepared to laugh and marvel along with them, as they discover a new future on Alpha.
Best of all, appreciate how they still work together — against insurmountable odds —to survive and thrive. They will fight, they will dance, they will love, they will mourn, they will meet new people, and they will make us root for them every step of the way.
But never forget about the planet’s unknown enemy. It will strike terror into your heart. It distorts reality and messes with everyone’s heads. Each will become their own worst enemy, at a time when they are looking to put their best selves forward, and the unleashing of their inner-demon will foil each person’s attempt to mend and heal.
Season 6 will test them all. Pray for their survival and pray for their souls. They are in search of sanctuary, but instead, they find hell — yet, as we have seen, that has never stopped them before. It is simultaneously breathtaking to behold and it will leave you breathless as each new threat arises. The adrenaline rush is thrilling and addictive. Hold on tight to your hearts.
