Dexter and Californication are easily two of the best shows airing on TV and their season premieres, airing on Sunday night, are intense and exciting, promising great things for the rest of the season.

Dexter starts after a season ender where Dexter found out that his hero, the man behind the code, Harry, had committed suicide after realizing what his son had become.  Season 3 finds Dexter working according to his own code.  In the premiere, Dexter does something that will have continuous repercussions.  There is a noticeable lack of awesomeness now that Doakes is no longer with us.  New characters played by Desmond Harrington and Jimmy Smits are great additions to the cast.  It is going to be fantastic seeing Dexter not only make friends, but be friends with Jimmy Smits – their chemistry right off the bat is tangible and I think that Dexter continues to get better with each passing episode.  One complaint is the cliffhanger ending of the first episode.  Can’t spoil it here for you – tune in to check it out.

Last season on Californication, Hank got everything he always wanted when Karen ran out of her wedding and hopped in the back of the car.  This season is all about what happens when you get your dream.  Where can you go when it seems that you may have reached the top?  For Hank, it’s down.  The first four episodes of Californication finds him trying to convince Karen that she didn’t make the wrong decision and that love really is enough.  I still don’t understand why Mia needs to be around.  Becca kind of annoys me, but she is one of the coolest kids on TV.  The Marcie stuff in later episodes is great, and I love Callum Keith Rennie (Leoben from BSG) in the role he plays in this show!  Such an awesome addition.

Showtime Sunday is fantastic – definitely worth watching again and again.
