Russell Brand To Host The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards

MTV confirmed Thursday that comedian Russell Brand, best known in the states for his hilarious performance in the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Penelope, will be hosting the 2008 Video Music Awards.   Not as well known as many of the previous VMA hosts (including Jack Black, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Chris Rock), this British import comes as a surprising choice for this year’s event.

This announcement follows MTV’s recent launch of vma.mtv.com where fans can vote for this year’s awards nominees in several categories.

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles September 7th.   Tune in to find out what Brand may have up his sleeve….or his tight leather pants.
