The smash-hit police procedural series that broke cable ratings during its debut run is back for another season on DVD with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group’s release of Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Second Season. Available in stores May 22, 2012, Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Second Season will feature all 15 episodes from the series’ sophomore season and never-before-seen bonus features, including an in-depth, behind-the-scenes featurette, unaired scenes and a gag reel. The release will be timed to the show’s third season premiere on TNT. Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Second Season will retail for $39.98 SRP.
Angie Harmon (Law & Order) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) co-star in Rizzoli & Isles — based on the best-selling crime thriller books by Tess Gerritsen and developed by writer and former crime reporter Janet Tamaro (Bones, Lost) — as Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles, close friends and complete opposites who together solve some of Boston’s most notorious crimes. Jane is a blue-collar Boston native with an uncompromisingly brash and beautiful bull-in-a-china shop approach to both cases and life. Maura, raised by affluent, educated, globe-trotting parents, is a quirky combination of a science nerd and elegantly chic girly girl. The two opposites have formed a unique and often funny partnership as they join forces to unravel complex crimes and catch the bad guy. In the second season, Jane heals emotional and physical scars as old loves reappear and her mother, Angela (Bracco), deals with divorce. Maura’s complicated relationship with her biological father leads to an explosive season finale that threatens to rupture Jane and Maura’s friendship.
Rizzoli & Isles remained a force in its second season, ranking as TNT’s #1 original series among Females 18-49 and 25-54. The show delivered an average 5.9 million viewers per week and ranked #2 in its time slot among households and total viewers.*
