ONE TREE HILL Season 8 Episode 2 I Can’t See You But I Know You’re There Recap

One Tree Hill Kate Voegele

This week Kate Voegele opens the show singing the “I Don’t Want to Be” theme. Haley is once again writing Lucas a letter, which seems a bit stale already after they opened the same last week. Unless they’re going to start filling us in on what Lucas and Peyton are up to, I don’t really care that Haley is writing him a letter each week.

Mouth helps Julian start loading up what is left of Clothes Over Bros and Brooke finds out from her lawyers that she may be in deeper than she ever thought because she signed papers that seem to show she knew her company was lying. Brooke and Victoria fight over whose fault the company’s downfall is. Obviously it’s a bit of both their faults, if you ask me. Maybe they should focus on who is going to fix the problems instead. Brooke says Victoria was never proud of her and that’s when Victoria finally acknowledges that she’s the one who lied to the investors because she knew Brooke was worth it. Not so worth it if the whole company goes under though.

Meanwhile, Haley is getting concerned after still not hearing from Quinn, so she goes to check on her and Clay and finally discovers that they’ve been shot. Of course, they aren’t going to let this ridiculous storyline finish that fast. Instead, they hit us again with a dream sequence where we can’t figure out what is real and what isn’t. What seems to be real is that Quinn and Clay go into surgery and then their dream versions are watching over them. Quinn ends up coming out of surgery and seems to be fine but Clay on the other hand flat lines.

Since Haley is at the hospital she asks Mia and Chase to pick up Jamie from school but he’s still traumatized by the psycho nanny Carrie incident so he refuses to go with them. Can’t blame the kid for being a little crazy after all he’s been through in his short life. So, instead Julian picks him up and they go to the batting cages and arcade together, Julian pretends there’s nothing going on with Quinn and Clay.

After finishing up at Clothes Over Bros, Mouth heads over to Tric to drown his sorrows of being an unemployed loser. Alex is the new bartender there, which still makes no sense to me whatsoever, and she screwed Mouth out of the job. I’m kind of over Mouth already this season. He just doesn’t seem to be a great fit with the other characters anymore. Millie ends up coming by to drown her sorrows as well. She’s not only out of a job but she blames herself for helping Victoria cover things up and having a role in the downfall of the company.

Nathan arrives at the hospital and talks to Clay, who is unconscious but still hanging on by a thread at this point. Nathan says he can’t die yet because he never told him he loved him and thank you for everything he’s done for him. Clay’s ghost is standing there and says he loves Nathan too, of course Nathan can’t hear that but it’s the thought that counts. Haley also talks to Quinn who is also unconscious. She tells Quinn that she’s pregnant and wants her to be the baby’s godmother. Again, it’s the thought that counts and Quinn’s ghost starts crying. The ghost versions of Quinn and Clay then take a walk through a beautiful garden and then Clay tells Quinn not to ever take things for granted in life and then he goes to leave her. Quinn’s ghost doesn’t want to go back to her body without him though, but he tells her that she needs to go back for Haley.

Jamie finally gets it out of Julian that there’s something wrong, so Julian takes him to the hospital. Jamie goes to Quinn’s bedside and gives her a gold star that they had found on the beach one time. Quinn’s ghost is on the beach and when Jamie gives her the gold star her ghost finds it in a treasure chest on the beach and it brings back all her memories with Jamie. She still wants to stay with Clay though. Clay’s ghost ends up convincing Quinn’s ghost that he will be alive again with her, so Quinn goes back to her real body, but it seems Clay was lying because his ghost stays on the beach.

Now it’s time for the wrap-up… the show once again lost me with all of the dream and ghost sequences. It all reminds me of the Denny and Izzie ghost storyline on Grey’s Anatomy which I hated as well. Anyway, it seems Quinn is alive and Clay is dead. Either they’re lying to us again or Clay will continue to appear as a ghost for the rest of the season because I’m pretty sure he’s contracted for the full season. And, Brooke and Victoria finally got into a blow out fight about who was the cause of the downfall and while Victoria takes responsibility, Brooke also admitted some wrongdoing on her part. Those were the two most important parts of this week’s episode. I wasn’t disappointed but I can’t say I loved it either. Again, the ghost scenes are just too out there for me. Anyone else feel the same?
