ONE TREE HILL Season 8 Episode 1 Asleep At Heaven’s Gate Recap

It’s hard to believe that One Tree Hill has been around since 2003, now eight seasons strong. I was just 17 years old when I began to watch the show. We’ve been through love triangles, weddings, murders, suicide, babies, drug addiction, car accidents, a school shooting, a stalker nanny, and the list goes on and on. So, what’s left for season eight? It looks like we’re in for another wedding, another baby, and so much more.

After a few seasons without my favorite opening theme song “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin Degraw, the song and credits are back! Instead of Gavin singing the song each week though we will be hearing it performed by a variety of artists.

We begin with Haley on the riverside basketball court writing a letter to Lucas. It’s nice to see the show finally acknowledging, even slightly, the absence of Lucas and Peyton. Haley has some big news to share; she’s pregnant! After writing the letter to Lucas she goes home to share the big news with Nathan and she seems to think it’s a girl. Jamie is excited for another sibling but he’s hoping for a brother so their family can be like Nathan and Uncle Lucas. Anyone else see that one coming?

We flashback to the end of last season when Clay and Quinn were shot by the delusional woman that believes she is Clay’s late wife. It’s slightly confusing what happens next, but Clay seems to wake up from it as if it were all just a nightmare. Don’t be fooled so fast though, they’re playing games on us. Later, Clay and Quinn are getting steamy on the beach when Clay’s phone rings, but there’s no phone. It’s already pretty obvious that it’s just a dream but then they go skinny dipping and at this point we know it is for sure. Haley can’t get ahold of Quinn, which confirms again that the shooting must’ve been real and not just a dream.

Brooke and Julian start discussing their wedding plans and Brooke gets a big surprise. Julian apparently has been planning his wedding since he was 9. Who does that?! He wants to recreate “Grease 2.” Brooke quickly puts a stop to that idea but they do try recreating it in bed. Haley interrupts them to tell them that she’s pregnant and then realizes what was going on before her interruption and runs away in horror. Awkward.

Haley only runs into more awkwardness at home when Jamie questions where babies come from. She tries to use Chester the rabbit as a way to explain it. Oh, please stop already, this is too embarrassing. With all the confusion between his mom explaining sex and using a rabbit to illustrate, Jamie and his friend decide to just Google it. They end up on who knows what kind of crazy rabbit sex site which Haley walks in on.

Brooke and Julian are done playing “Grease 2” but the fun is just getting started for Brooke. She gets arrested and charged with lying to her company’s investors. Apparently they’ve been fudging their profits. Naughty, naughty! Obviously we know it’s not Brooke’s doing, I am sure Victoria had her hand in this mess, but Brooke is the one to take the fall. Julian bails her out of jail and Brooke has to turn to her former assistant-turned-drugged out model-turned CFO, Millie? Millie pretty much admits to cooking the books with Victoria. All of the store’s merch is moved out and it seems the company is dunzo. Really, it’s all gone just that fast?! What will Brooke do now?

Nathan heads off to Charlotte to start the NBA season. Haley has to promise him that she’ll come visit. I don’t see this lasting very long. She’s taking care of Jamie and pregnant while he’s off hours away playing basketball. It may be his dream but being a single mother isn’t going to be any fun.

Alex somehow went from A-list actress last season to bartender this season. She’s now slumming it with Chase as a bartender at Tric. This doesn’t make Mia very happy as she thinks Alex is zeroing in on her man.

The premiere ends with the shocking scene of Clay and Quinn bleeding on the floor after being shot. As if we didn’t see that coming. But, then again it’s still sort of a shocker to actually see it.

Overall the episode was great! It seems like this season they are already doing a better job at bringing back some of the past OTH with new twists, like the theme song and mention of Lucas. Hopefully we keep seeing that all season. What do you hope to see this season?
