Season 4 episode 1 of Lost is in the books and after tonight we are left with just 47 more hours of our Losties. Did I love it? As a stand-alone episode absolutely. As a season premiere, to me, it’s the weakest of the 4 seasons. There wasn’t one ‘wow’ moment in the episode but as usual I was still left wanting more. There’s so much to digest that I thought I would just run through some random thoughts that came to me as I watched. Chime in below in the comments to let me know what you think. Was it your favorite Lost season premiere? Did you love it or hate it?

Who are the Oceanic Six? My guess here is that the Oceanic Six are the six survivors of flight 815. How and when they are to be rescued remains to be seen but it seems at least six passengers from 815 get off the island. We learned tonight that Hurley is one of the six. We know from the end of last season that Jack and Kate got off the island as well. HOWEVER.. this is Lost after all so for now I am only assuming that Jack and Hurley are two of the six because via flash forwards we hear them both say they were survivors of 815 to someone else. We have not heard Kate tell this to anyone. We know she got off the island but is she one of the six ‘survivors’? Meaning perhaps she got off the island in another fashion? Perhaps she is someone else now via a new identity. Back to last seasons finale we know Kate is with a ‘him’ and my guess is the ‘him’ that Ben and the Others have referred to is who Kate is with. Someone we have not met yet and someone ( at least for now ) I don’t think is Jacob. Kate apparently has dodged her murder rap and drives a Volvo and lives in LA. Somehow she got off the island and is living free and clear of her past with someone other than Jack. Perhaps ‘him’ facilitated her new life. So why did only six leave? My guess right out of the gate is we have more than a few deaths left to come and I still believe there will be losties and others that don’t want to leave the island. My take on the Oceanic Six is they are the six that WANTED to leave the island.
Who was the Oceanic Air employee who visited Hurley in the psychiatric ward? His name is Matthew Abbadon and my first impression is he does not work for Oceanic Air (AKA Liar). After some generic chit chat he gets to the point and asks Hurley if “they are still alive”. Presumably he means the survivors of Oceanic Air other than the Oceanic Six. I’d put him in the evil camp after watching him in the first episode. Lost is known for its red herrings but to support Abbadon being evil in true lost fashion I ran his name in an anagram program. Matthew Abbadon = What Bad Boatmen… Hmmmm.. Also, a quick google search for Abbadon sends you to wikipedia for this – Abaddon is one of the infernal names used in LaVeyan Satanism, and is first in the list—only as it comes first alphabetically—and means "the destroyer."
Who was in the cabin? It was clear that in the rocker we saw Christian Shephard. I still think Jack's Dad is dead but he was in that rocker. We also saw an eye briefly in the window as Hurley peeked into the house. Was that Jacobs eye? Was it someone else? Locke perhaps? For whatever reason my initial reaction was maybe it was Mikhail ( Russian Eye Patch Guy ) because it seems like he NEVER dies. FYI - we saw a right eye and Mikhail wore a patch on his left eye.
Why was Hurley painting an igloo? Hurley needed the shelter of the psychiatric ward and it would seem natural he would paint something he has seen and that felt safe to him. The only connection I could think of was Penny and her team in their cold weather gear. A reach perhaps… but the island does have polar bears. Maybe Penny and her team turn out to be the rescue crew. Speaking of the psychiatric ward and artwork. Anyone else notice the chalkboard behind Hurley as he talked to fake Oceanic Air employee Matthew Abbadon? It had a shark chasing a boat. A boat with a pirate flag on it. There was also a palm tree and an island…
Some final questions and random thoughts….

Who is Naomi’s sister? That has to come back around somehow to someone we know or will soon meet.
Jack drinking OJ and Vodka ( the drinking begins ) and Hurley smashing into an orange truck – yet another tie that binds piece from the series.
Charlie’s hand in the underwater vision Hurley saw in the police station had the words “they need you” written. Why? How can Hurley help? What made it okay to leave the island and what made Hurley and Jack fall apart thinking about going back?
