Things get interesting this week when we leave Portland behind for some rough and tough camping in the forest. Baze, Cate, Ryan, and Math chaperone a high school camping trip which inevitably turns into nothing more than an excuse for everyone to hook up in some pretty nature setting.
Before this whole camping trip ever came to be, there was some unsettled business from last episode. Cate and Ryan are still not on the best of terms. In fact, I’d say (and I may be hoping) that they’re on the verge of getting divorced. To make things worse Ryan walks out on one of their counseling sessions.
While Cate and Ryan are just about to splitsville, Baze is still just trying to chug along to a first date with his boss, Emma. Baze wants to take Emma out for a really nice dinner so he turns to Math for advice. But, none of this matters because Math reminds Baze that he already agreed to chaperone the high school’s camping trip and he’s not going to let him bail. So, Baze instead invites, well more like tricks, Emma into going on the camping trip with him, Cate, Ryan, Math, and all of the high school kids.
It’s a long and rather awkward way to where they’re going camping but that’s not all the fun. When they finally get there they have to navigate their way to where they will actually be camping. It’s a bit of a challenge, especially for the clueless Lux and Cate isn’t much help either. To be honest, I think they’ve more than played out the ‘Lux is dumb’ card. Can we give the girl a break?!
Anyway, once they arrive at the spot where they will be camping the high school kiddies go one way and the adults go the other way. Cate and Ryan go off to continue their little spat which of course turns naughty. So, is this make up or break up sex? Ryan decides to be a douchebag and calls it breakup sex.

Meanwhile, Baze tries to win over Emma by setting up a legit date night on the school bus, Christmas lights to set the mood and everything. Quite the gentleman he can be! They dance for a bit and then cuddle for a bit more. They’re actually kind of cute.
Lux and Mr. Daniels – who I suppose you could also consider a chaperone but I kind of think of him as a kid – sneak off to the lake to talk. Before you know it, Mr. Daniels and Lux are stripping down to their undies and going for a swim in the lake. The real reason is that he wants to try to teach Lux how to swim. Wink, wink. It’s all fun and games until Lux’s friend Tasha catches the two. She tries to talk to Lux about getting it on with her teacher but (fortunately) Lux doesn’t listen. I don’t know who Tasha thinks she is but she needs to shut her mouth. I want Mr. Daniels and Lux to be together.
The next morning, Ryan and Baze have a heart-to-heart which is very odd for these two but goes surprisingly well. When they all board the bus to head back to Portland after their very short camping trip, Ryan tells Cate that he wants to continue going to therapy because he wants things to work out. Things also work out between Baze and Emma. She decides to stop being such a cold bitch and make a go of it with Baze. With all the love in the air, Lux also gives Mr. Daniels an ultimatum. She tells him he needs to decide whether he wants her or not.
I guess I can live with Cate and Ryan continuing to try to work things out. Maybe I’ll end up liking Ryan again but at the moment he seems super annoying. I’m happy that Baze is finally getting somewhere with someone besides Cate. His relationship with Emma is sure to drive Cate crazy. And, last but not least, we have Lux and Mr. Daniels which you know I want these two together even if it is so wrong. I do think he needs to figure out what role he’s going to play though, I mean is he teacher? Tutor? Boyfriend? I’m just as confused as Lux as to what he wants.
