Leverage Season 3

Leverage Season 3 : Parker (Beth Riesgraf) Hardison (Aldis Hodge) Photo : Erik Heinlla/TNT

When we last left our merry band of larcenous defenders, well…things weren’t so merry. After a job that went off the rails, Nathan Ford (played by Timonthy Hutton) turned himself over to recurring nemesis/Interpol agent James Sterling to protect the rest of the crew. The first part of the two-hour season premeire starts out with Sophie (Gina Bellman), Hardison (Aldis Hodge), Parker (Beth Riesgraf), and Eliot (Christian Kane) planning to break him out of jail.

Of course the episode gets more complicated than that, which is part of the show’s inherent charm. The biggest wrinkle is the appearance of a season-long antagonist, something new for the team. They’ve had looming show-downs and persistant monkey wrenchs but never a Big Bad. Well…technically there’s a Big Bad and a Bigger Bad with the crew sandwiched in between. All this while the team repairs their relationships with Nate and he tries out a new twist on his drinking issue.

What’s great about the series is how the writers layer the cons and plots without sacrificing character development, making the viewer go cross-eyed with confusion, or losing a bit of wit or fun. It also helps that the cast is so fabulous.  While everyone was as enjoyable as always, for me Hodge’s hacker Hardison shined a little brighter in “The Jailhouse Job.” He got to do some field work, put on a new accent, and I loved his reactions to Nathan throughout.

If you like humor, action, intrigue, and some touching, mushy “feelings” stuff all wrapped up in a pretty package, then LEVERAGE is a must for your Season Pass list.

LEVERAGE premieres Sunday, June 20th at 9pm/8pmC on TNT
