Fernando and Roberto learn the crankshaft of the Bel-Air is damaged and the pistons are shot, and those will be nearly impossible to fix or replace in Cuba. Demetrio pays $1500 to buy a new engine but has very little money to continue the restoration. His supportive family offers to sell everything for the cause, but they still come up short.
