There is a new Jason at the helm of NBC’s “Bionic Woman.” Jason Cahill is coming on board the freshman sci-fi series as showrunner, sources said.
For the past month, the writers’ room on the show has been run by “Friday Night Lights” exec producer Jason Katims. Katims has been pulling double duty on “Bionic” and “Lights” since joining “Bionic” as a consultant in early September.
On the sci-fi series from Universal Media Studios, Cahill joins exec producers Jason Smilovic and David Eick. “Bionic,” starring Michelle Ryan as a 21st century reincarnation of mechanically enhanced Jaime Sommers, has gone through a series of behind-the-scenes changes, including the departures of exec producers Glen Morgan and Michael Dinner, who directed the pilot.
After an explosive start, the series has hit some bumps creatively and ratings-wise in the competitive Wednesday 9 p.m. period. Cahill, who won a WGA Award for his work on HBO’s “The Sopranos,” most recently served as co-exec producer on another freshman drama, CBS’ “Cane.” Reps for NBC declined comment Wednesday.
