BLURAY Release Date: April 10th, 2012
A Streetcar Named Desire — the film classic starring Marlon Brando and Oscar® winners Vivien Leigh, Kim Hunter and Karl Malden and directed by Elia Kazan — will debut as A Streetcar Named Desire Blu-ray Book April 10 as Warner Home Video commemorates the 60th anniversary of playwright Tennessee Williams’ masterwork.
A Streetcar Named Desire was nominated for 12 Academy Awards® and won four, including three for acting. This edition of the film is A Streetcar Named Desire: The Original Restored Version, the motion picture moviegoers would have seen had not censorship by the Legion of Decency occurred at the last minute. It features three minutes of footage thought to be lost until its rediscovery in the early 1990s. The new footage underscores, among other things, the sexual tension between Blanche DuBois (Vivienne Leigh) and Stanley Kowalski (Marlon Brando), and Stella Kowalski’s (Kim Hunter) passion for her husband.
The Blu-ray Book contains 40-pages filled with dazzling photos, film history trivia and more. The set, with bonus features including five documentaries, and a commentary, will be available April 10.
