This August, the BBC examines the Scottish nation – past and present – in the fresh and thought-provoking ten-part documentary, A History of Scotland. Presented by charismatic archaeologist and broadcaster Neil Oliver (Coast, The One Show), this BAFTA-winning series utilizes stunning cinematography and fascinating narrative to chronicle Scottish history through battles and allegiances, political intrigue and religious conflict. Beginning with the first stirrings of identity around 2,000 years ago, Oliver guides viewers on an insightful journey of an often turbulent but continuously fascinating nation. By revealing the struggles, power brokers and characters from across the years – including William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Sir Walter Scott – Oliver brings Scotland’s fascinating history to life through milestone events such as the Darien disaster and the Highland-Lowland rivalry. The 5-disc DVD box set showcases the full nine-hour, ten-part series plus the provocative two-part documentary, “How the Celts Saved Britain,” presented by Dan Snow (Battlefield Britain, Twentieth Century Battlefields). Additionally, A History of Scotland includes a 24-page booklet containing facts and striking images of Scottish landmarks.
