It's never too early for Comic Con news. In addition to all 4 days being sold out news is trickling in at Seat42f on the hour at who will and won't be there this year. Check back for more updates as most of the studios and networks have had their big Comic Con meetings. Complete details should start to roll out over the next few weeks. We will continue to update this list as we get word from the studios and networks on other shows and movies making the trip to San Diego.
*If a show is not listed it just means we don't have confirmation one way or the other right now.

A bunch of shows missing from the list that have me curious if they will be there this year. Thanks for the update
written by ilaam , June 07, 2009
I know many fans of Heroes that will be pissed off if they don't come down to SDCC this year if that is the big tv show that doesn't have a Comic Con panel
written by Patty , June 07, 2009
I know you will be first in line for that Twilight pane, right?
written by Misty , June 08, 2009
YEAH. Supernatural
I was a little worried that was the show you were referring to. phhheeeeeewwwwwwwwww! written by The Xan Man , June 08, 2009
I hope it's Heroes that's doesn't show. Honestly, the show is dead, it is no more, it has ceased to be. It doesn't deserve to be at the con and if I don't have to run into any of it's fans who annoyingly and bewilderingly defend it then it'll be for the better.
Now if we can only get rid of the blight that is horrible vampire fanfiction.
And yay Dexter!

I'd be most surprised not to see 'Dollhouse' there, since a special CC edition of the S1 DVD will be available.
And I totally heard from the (not so horses) mouth that Supernatural would be there again- Jensen and Jared told me back in March (at AHBL Con) they would be at SDCC this year.
I can't wait!

Thanks ! This is very useful.
Eonline mentions that these will be on Friday: Caprica, Eureka and Stargate Universe
I've also seen this on eonline :
WEDNESDAY, JULY 22
6 to 9 p.m.: WB Pilot Preview Night
Is that really what it seems to be? Not that I'm really looking forward to any of those pilots but you know...
And a bonus question for those of you who already attended a Comic Con : how early do I have to be in order to be sure I can get in a panel ?
written by Hanny , June 12, 2009
Last year was my first year and it was a great time. I was in line usually by 6 am....just to be sure I could get in. I'm from NJ, so camping outside in the nice weather, reading a book and hanging with friends was no problem for me. I spent most of the time in Hall H with a fex exceptions like the Simpsons and Galactica panels. The Twilight fans will be out in mobs on Thursday so I would make sure you get there as early as possible if there is a panel in Hall H you want to see.
written by Veta , June 12, 2009
Thanks Hanny, I found your post really helpful and I just wanted to clarify - in line at 6AM for a panel at what time of day? What should I do if I want to go to more than one panel a day? I have a friend with me, are we allowed to hold each other's place in line? I know I'd have to go to the bathroom at some point.
written by Hanny , June 12, 2009
Of course you can hold places in line. Last year they were doing construction next door and I ran over and used the Johhny on the spot. The biggest issue is when people try to hold a ton of seats especially those Twilight girls. If I remember correctly, the panels start at 10 am. They let you into Hall H 8:30 or maybe 9?....I can't remember exactly. The time of my panels fluctuated but I was in line early every day and sat through panels that I may not of been interested in just to make sure I had a seat. A good example would be Galactica. I sat through Simpson (a semi Simpson fan) and Futurama panel and possibly 2 others just to make sure I was in for Galactica which was jam packed. Most Galactica fans did what I did.....I come a long way so my approach to the panels is safe rather than sorry.
The great thing about Hall H besides the panels is the bathroom right in the Hall. They don't have that out here at the Javitz center. You never have to leave Hall H....food, drinks, and bathroom. All the necessities.......

Wanted to share some news on THE BOX.
Many have asked us if we will be at Comic-Con . . . I am happy to tell you first that the answer is YES. Our panel is Friday, July 24 as part of the Warner Bros. presentation. Cameron and James will be joining me, we look forward to sharing a First Look at the trailer plus other cool stuff.
More news on THE BOX and other DARKO projects soon.

Thanks Hanny ! Very helpful indeed.
I hope Ballroom 20 is as good as Hall H because I intend to attend the V and Fringe panels.
One more question : are camcorders and/or cameras allowed in the panels ?
written by The Xan Man , June 13, 2009
You can take video and pics except when asked not to. This is usually just during footage screenings and the like. Someone will end up recording something either way though. Any time it's just Q and A with the actors/writers/producers you'll be able to record.
written by The Xan Man , June 13, 2009
Oh, and while Ballroom 20 is no Hall H, what with everything inside, it's worth noting that you can stay the whole day in the room (they don't clear the rooms between panels) and that if you need to go to the bathroom or quickly (and I mean quickly) get something to eat they have passes that will let you back in the room. Just make sure someone watched your seat for you.
written by Travis , June 13, 2009
Thanks Xan Man. That's great but I guess I have to buy some new batteries now.
Should I expect wifi in the rooms or am I being naive ?
Anyway, I can't wait.
written by The Xan Man , June 14, 2009
You're welcome. I'm always glad to help the con newbies. It's a lot of stuff to take in your first time and if you're not prepared you certainly won't enjoy yourself as much. It'd be especially disheartening to show up to a panel too late only to find yourself shut out because you didn't know before hand. I'm just saying, I got in line for Lost last year at 4am and still ended up in the second section of seats. Granted, tons of people were holding places in line that early but still.
And there's wifi, no problems there.

I'm going for the first time too and have already read a bunch of interesting tips from various sites. I did want to know about the whole autograph signing bit. I noticed that some are lottery and some are free. Are the free ones basically first come first serve? Or is it as long as we have merchandise for you to buy for signing, it's a go? I also wanted to know if the tv show panels had autograph signings. Would love to get the Dexter panel autographs.
Thanks!
written by The Xan Man , June 15, 2009
First off, there's the autograph section in the sails pavilion. All of the people listed in the autograph section on the main site (when it updates closer to the con) will be there during the times listed and you can get at least one item signed for free. Then it's up to whoever is doing the signing as to whether or not they want to charge for extra autographs. Some of these signings are limited though and require a ticket which can be won in a lottery at a time given before the signing. Usually a few hours before. These are the easy autographs.
Then there;s the hard ones which are down in the exhibit hall. First off, not all casts or who have you do signings. A lot of the time if they do it will be directly after (sometimes right before) the show/movie's panel and it'll be at the both for the show/film in the exhibit hall. Dexter, if there is to be one, would be at the Showtime booth most likely. These types of signings are hard to get into and you may even have to skip the panel itself just to wait in line. Another thing that makes these difficult signings is that they aren't listed or advertised anywhere except for at the booth they'll be at. Often, a booth will have a handout or something that lists all of the events they'll be holding over the course of the con. It's best to scope out what you want on preview night if you're there for it. And these are almost always free I think.
There's also a combination of the two types which involves ticketed signings in the exhibit hall. I know Dark Horse does this with people like Joss Whedon and Bruce Campbell. With these you can just go to the booth and get a ticket any time (or day) before the signing and then they'll announce the winners back at the booth some time shortly before the signing.
And then there are people, artists, writers mostly, who are usually at booths in the exhibit hall for most of the con and will be happy to sign most anything.
Geeze, that was a lot. Hope it helped.

I walked away with autographs from the cast of Drag me to Hell last year including Sam Raimi and Jackie Earl Haley, Carla Gugino, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan from Watchmen...
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 16, 2009
Xan Man your help is much appreciated!! Thanks for taking the time to write up all the details. As a first timer it's going to elp me out a lot, because I'm not familiar with how things run at the Con. I do have a 4 day pass, so I'll be sure to do my recon on preview night. I've been following this site and others for information about the con. Here's some stuff that may occur but is NOT YET CONFIRMED accordign to a website I saw.
» It has already been confirmed (by the NY Times) that Peter Jackson will be in attendance this year in support of District 9 with director Neill Blomkamp as well.
» Disney will be bringing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as their centerpiece. It's also likely that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland(Johnny Depp will be there) will show up and that Pixar will bring Toy Story 3.
» Word leaked out earlier this year that Disney would debut an official Tron 2 trailer at Comic-Con.
» Warner Brothers' presentations will include Sherlock Holmes with Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. as well as our first look at Jonah Hex with Josh Brolin and probably Megan Fox.
» In addition to Sherlock Holmes, Downey Jr. will also be helping Jon Favreau promote Iron Man 2. They'll be back again to blow away fans with what could end up the most exciting panel this year.
» We've heard that Fox may be going all out with Avatar. So if you're attending, this is where you'll be the first to see any footage from the movie (in 3D) and it's likely James Cameron will show up as well.
» Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly confirmed already via MySpace that he'll be there to show off his new movie The Box with Cameron Diaz and James Marsden most likely in attendance as well.
» Sony's presentation will definitely include 2012 and maybe Phillip Noyce's Salt (so claims the LA Times, although it's not official), which means we could see John Cusack and maybe Angelina Jolie.
» We haven't heard anything from Universal, but it's likely they'll have another panel on The Wolf Man, since it was delayed until November, and we hope they bring Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim as well.
» Word is that Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat will be screening to kick off its road show.
» We've heard that James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin may also be screening early (via SlashFilm).
» Zack Snyder will be in attendance to do a Blu-Ray Live showing of Watchmen one of the nights.
» Derrick Comedy's feature film Mystery Team will not only be screening one of the nights, but the entire cast will be part of a Ballroom 20 panel with Paper Heart and they'll have a booth on the show floor.
» We've heard there will NOT be anything from Michel Gondry's Green Hornet, Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, or Christopher Nolan's Inception. But there could be things from Where the Wild Things Are.
written by Hanny , June 16, 2009
Good stuff Comic Con Newbie! I had no idea Ninja Assassin would screen....I hope that comes true! You are going to love the con!
written by The Xan Man , June 16, 2009
Holy lineup Batman! Normally, I just stick with the television panels (movies and Hall H are too much trouble) but I could see myself maybe giving up some things for others on that list. Anything Disney, PoP, Alice (Johnny Depp really? I almost feel bad for him knowing how much he doesn't like the attention), and Toy Story 3, not to mention Tron 2, is looking great now. And then there's Holmes and Iron Man 2 which will blow away I'm sure. Avatar footage! 2012, Scott Pilgrim, Zack Snyder and a viewing of Watchmen BR. How am I supposed to do this?
Oh yeah, and Peter Jackson finally!
Too much might just be too much.
And you're welcome Newbie, just try to not get too overwhelmed at first.
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 16, 2009
I'm actually pretty hyped up about the whole thing. I've seen tons of videos on youtube about Comic Con 2008 and it seems to be a really great event. I just hope that it's possible to get to see certain panels and get certain autographs. I'm also hoping to grab a lot of good SWAG(Term I learned off a comic con site) lol

Can someone tell me if 6BCF and 6A are near each other?
written by The Xan Man , June 17, 2009
Right next to each other.

Thanks, that will give me a little bit of a plan.
written by Veta , June 17, 2009
So, I'm really desperate to see John Barrowman, and I was wondering if I'd be taking too great a risk "getting in the room"-wise, by seeing the David Tennant panel? Experienced con-goers, thoughts?
written by Jenna , June 17, 2009
Smallville and Supernatural will pack room 6BCF, but I'd be willing to bet that enough of those people will leave after SPN to allow you to get in for the Torchwood panel. Of course, there may be a lot of other people planning to make a beeline to room 6BCF after the Doctor Who panel as well...
written by Veta , June 17, 2009
Gah, I don't know what the right thing to do is. Have a bit of panic disorder and my emotions are all haywire.
written by Dana , June 18, 2009
This will be my second comic con, and I was wondering if any experienced con goers know if it would be total suicide trying to go to both Dr who panel and the supernatural panel. I really want to go to both, but I don’t want to end up getting horrible seats for SPN or heaven forbid, not getting in at all. Is it doable? If anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it cause I’m in a fix. Thanks.
written by The Xan Man , June 18, 2009
Sorry to be a downer Dana but I'm gonna have to say it'll be nigh on impossible. Smallville and Supernatural have too much fan overlap to empty out the room in that short amount of time. It's might be somewhat possible but you'll be really far back.
And frak me, Lost in H at 11, Chuck in 20 at 10. Lost takes priority but these are the two panels I was most looking forward to. Curse you scheduling gods.
written by Dana , June 18, 2009
Thanks you Xan Man! That sucks, but it's kinda what I figured. I think I'll join you in cursing those scheduling gods.
written by Rush , June 18, 2009
Hey, Xan Man, you're alright
Thaks for helping out the newbies
I would have loved even half of that advise my first time around! All of you first timers out there, I have only a few small pieces of advice that I would have loved to have. First, get there EARLY! Even if you think that you are the only one that could possibly interested in a particular panel, get there as early as possible because, believe me, you are NOT the only one interested. Once the programming guide goes up, study it and PLAN. You will have to make some hard decisions, so prepare for that as well. There are going to be MANY times that you will want to be in two places at once. And if you think that an hour between two panels you want to see is plenty of time to get from one room to another and get a seat, you are absolutely wrong. Especially if it invovles Hall H. Prepare to sit through a panel or two that you may not have been interested in just to make sure you have the seat you want for the panel that you want. I promise, its ok! Ive sat through many panels that I thought I had no interest in and wound up finding myself getting really into
Plus youll get insider info that you can always pass along to your friends, or use the info to torment them
Be polite! Not just to the panelists (who could be doing many other things but choose to take their time out and see us fans) but to each other too. I know that you probably want that one collectible that everyone else wants and you want to beat them to it, but dont push or jab, etc. There are a lot of children around too, so be mindful of them. Parents can be vicious animals when protecting their children (and I dont blame them)! Finally, please practice good hygene
I know that sounds ridiculous but for some reason, many of the attendees somehow start regressing to a time when a hot shower was a luxery that could not be afforded and soap was an alien presence. I promise Ill practice what I preach
Anyway, hope that helps some of you out and I look foward to hanging out with all of my fellow geeks for another week of absolute insanity and fanboy bliss
OH! Something just occurred to me that hopefully someone out there (Xan Man?) can actually help me with
My wife is a Twilight mom (I know, I know. Nothing I can do about it though) and plans on spending the night Wed to get into the New Moon panel on Thurs. Has anyone out there spent the night in line for Hall H before? Any tips on safety or is everyone pretty cool because youre kindred spirits? Should I suck it up and do it myself? I would hate to spend the night with all of the Twilight fans but I also dont want my wife ending up hurt either. Finally, I havent seen it many places yet but Mark Hamil will be there this year signing at the officialpix booth Friday and Saturday
Thought Id just throw that out... written by Comic Con Newbie , June 18, 2009
I'd like to know about getting in line for panels and the con itself. I heard there are various entries and that some are better than others. Also, if I want to attend a panel in hall H or in the 6A o B rooms, where is the best place to get into line? I've heard stories where some people start a line and that it ends up being the wrong one and you can't cut into the correct one.
I'm actually happy the Twilight forum is taking place, because I'm sure that will clear a path for those of us who want to see other things. As far as planning man I'm going to have everything down to the wire. I will stick to my plan no matter what in order to ensure that I have a shot of seeing my important panels and stars. I'll use preview night as recon night and hopefully ask the staffs help should I have a question.
Is preview night any good? Is it an actual night or is it just to see what they have? I imagine you get first shot at cool SWAG and get to see where the booths are at. Which reminds me, I've read about the BIG FREAKIN BAG, how does one get these bags? Do you purchase them or are they free?
Thanks!
written by The Xan Man , June 18, 2009
Rush, for waiting all night for Hall H there shouldn't be many safety issues. I guarantee there will always be other people in line. I've waited in that line for Lost since 3 in the morning before. It should be pretty safe. That is, until someone tries to cut it. Then I feel sorry for that person. Fans are very protective of their spots in line. And you could always join your wife if you're that worried. It'd lesson the ear splitting, eye bleeding hurt that is Twilight fandom.
Newbie, I'm so very tempted to take a map of the convention center and Paint it up with helpful tips and stuff like where to line up. Most of it is pretty straight forward, especially if you get there a little late (you may have still thought it was early enough, trust me, early enough doesn't cut it) and see a huge line already. It's stuff like waiting outside that can be tough at first to know where to go but chances are there will be a line there as well. And stick to your plan, Wonderful advice that is.
About preview night, it's pretty much like any other day of the con just without panels. The exhibit hall is open and everything there is available, from certain guest appearances to con exclusives and other merchandise for sale and, of course, swag's available. It can be a hectic night what with everyone wanting to get all that exclusive and free stuff before they run out. And those big bags, they really only started 2 years ago when Warner Bros. had a big Superman bag and everyone wanted one (one girl even made a dress out of one, during the con no less). Then last year tons of other companies and advertisers had them. WB actually had four different ones. It's just a matter of finding out who has them and hoping they'll be giving them out when you head over there. It's gotten so bad that most places have a schedule as to when they'll give away certain hot swag items so they don't run out. So glad I got those Star Trek posters last year.
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 18, 2009
As always thanks for all the tips Xan Man. I'll be sure and use them wisely. As far as cutters go, you're damn right we will be protective of our spots....lol Imagine following the rules and not even eating breakfast to get there early and then have some dude just walk up all happy and full of breakfast cut in and get in for a good seat. I can't wait for the con, I'm ready with my camera, memory sticks, batteries, and backpack ready for action. I'm taking a binder with plastic sheets in order to protect any autograph or picture I might get. Also to protect it from my water bottle and snacks, should something get messy.
I've been wanting to do this for about 5yrs now and I finally have the vacation time and money to do so. I'll look like a kid at a candy store when I go there. The only problem is since I'm going alone, I'll have to ask random people to take my picture if I want one with a character or at a certain spot. Bummer! Good news is I'm my own man and am on "my" schedule and am going to see what I want, when I want.
written by travis , June 18, 2009
Xan Man, did you get really good seats when you waited for Lost since 3 in the morning ?
Is it okay if I get up very early, wait in line and if my wife joins me later ? Not sure if that's holding the line or cutting it... And I don't want to annoy anybody (nor get killed by some hardcore Twilight fans lol).
Anyway, thanks again because I think I would have been a mess during the Comic Con without all those great tips.
written by Rush , June 18, 2009
Thanks Xan Man
You are definitely in my cool book
Lol. Yeah I saw teh Wonder Woman bag last year that the girl made into the dress
I thought it was really inventive! Newbie, heres the thing about preview night that you should know - it is absolutely INSANE. Its really rough but I personally think that everyone should experience it for themselves at least once. I've noticed in the past (and Xan Man you are welcome to correct me if you disagree) that although they have some cool stuff on preview night, the con really doenst go into full swing until Thurs. I find that there are many booths that arent quite ready and dont have the stuff that they will the next day. However, there is some cool SWAG that wont necessarily be there at any other time than preview night. As a matter of fact, I believe that the Wonder Woman bag that I mentioned was a preview night only bag but maybe I just didnt catch them around after that. I would definitely stop by the freebie table at the sails pavillion as often as possible. Thats where they usually give out free poster tubes, which, trust me, you will need! I will also tell you this - your first year is always a learning experience
If you are able to do everything that you plan and everything goes exactly the way you want it and nothing goes awry, you will be a god among men
As for finding someone to take a pic, Ill tell you this much, when you walk in there you feel like you are home and these are people that youve known for years (I do anyway). Of course there are a few jerks, but for the most part we are all brothers in fandom. I cant imagine anyone giving you a hassle for asking to take a pic and you may just wind up making a frined or two while in line (there are many lines)that you can just hang out with the entire con! If you see some guy walking around with a badge that says "Rush", Im always up for making new friends
Travis - I actually posed the same question to the Con staff about saving a place for my wife and that is perfectly acceptable. Not acceptable - holding a place for thirty of your closest friends.

Yes, Heroes announced today they WILL have a small panel this year. Tim Kring said he and a 'few others' will be there Saturday, no time yet.
Check http://heroesarg.com for updates on that.

I really really really hope BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will be here this year-I will be way disappointed if there isnt some BSG presence!

It's shaping up nicely! Mark Hamil signing is huge as he doesn't do many signings. Last year, as I was waiting in line for the Simpsons panel, they were walking around with a bag and you can pull a ticket to win an autograph session with the cast of Drag Me to Hell. I actually won.......It's something that happened by chance but I wish there was a way to prepare for somethig like that. I had no clue they would be walking around and I did not see it on any schedule.

Okay, I got one more question, I hope it's not a silly one.
Is there a line for each room or Hall ?
I just saw this crazy video http://www.approachinglost.com...-con-2009/ (it kinda freaked me out but I guess I know what to expect now) and it looks like Hall H has its own line. Am I wrong ? If not, that would ruin my "me holding the line for my wife" plan on Thursday since she's a Chuck and I'm a Lost fan.
written by Hanny , June 19, 2009
Every hall has it's own line. Usually in the morning there are 2 lines....1 for hall H and they usually let you in semi early. The other line is to get into the Conventon center. Once the convention center doors open, everyone goes to their respective rooms and lines.
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 19, 2009
I don't think I could camp out, I mean it would have to be a panel I would die to see! For me the earliest I would get there is 7 or 8 am, but not freakin 6 or anything below. Say you do get there at 4am and you are the first in line, does that mean you get a front row seat? I've heard the press gets those, which reminds me to ask how far away are you if you are say in the fifth row watching a panel in hall H or the 6A or B rooms?
written by Rush , June 19, 2009
Travis, the convention doors open up earlier than Hall H so that those that have single day passes can get their pass then get into line, but what you saw is probably a pretty good representation of EVERY Hall H line. Yeah you will definitely have to decide which panel is more important between the two. Or, just have your wife meet up with you later
For me, the best days are teh days taht Hall H is presenting everything that I want to see so I can just stay right where I am and not have to worry about trying to make it to the next panel. Newbie, Are you planning on driving to the Con every day or are you using SD Transit? By 8 the parking lots are pretty packed and the lines are in full swing. I know it sounds insane but if you want to get into a panel that you know is popular and say its the first panel that day, 6-7 am will probably get you in, but towards the back (in the case of Hall H). I cant express just how massive these lines are and how many you will be waiting in. Last year was the first time that the Con sold out and the turn out was crazy. Even for preview night, you will be waiting for hours in line, so be prepared. As I said before, your first time is definitely a learning experience and no matter what advise any of us veterans may give you, you will still be shocked at what the Con truly is. Thats not to say that it isnt a blast anyway! It really is a fantastic time
Personally, there really isnt a day that goes by that I dont think about the last Con and look foward to the next
It can just be a bit overwhelming the first time. If you get there @ 4 am, I doubt that you would get front row, considering that there will already be plenty of people camped out. You would probably get a pretty good seat though, depending on the panel and how popular it is. I know that for teh New Moon panel there are already people that are talking about camping out for a couple of days before! For the Heroes panel last year I got to the Con @ 5 am and was still in the back third of the hall. You have a HUGE advantage over a lot of us, given the fact that you are going by yourself and only need to look for a single empty seat
I believe the first couple rows or so are reserved in Hall H but say that you get the first row behind the reserves - youll be about 25-30 feet away from the stage (if that), which is actually perfect. There are huge HD screens that are also showing the panelists, so if youre too close, those can seem a bit big. As for 6A and B, I know that Ive been lucky enough to get front row once or twice so I know they arent reserved. Same with Ballroom 20. Its easy to get stressed about all of this stuff (especially if youre not used to crowds numbering in the thousands) but the main thing to remember is that you came to have fun
I envy you in that you will be your own man the whole Con
That is fantastic and Im sure youll have a blast

Ah, the good ol' line waiting discussion. Like I said earlier, too early can never be early enough. When I got to the Hall H line for Lost last year at 3am I was still in the second section of seats. I can't understand why this happened except for maybe the fact that that early there were a lot of people holding places for others in line. You can do this, don't worry. Just not for like say 10 people. The line thing is funny because it only really took off last year. Sure, the years before Hall H was still bad but it wasn't camping out bad. And pretty much anything else you could get there probably a half hour early and still get good seats. I remember two years ago when I went to the Lost panel it was still in Ballroom 20 and it was the first thing in there on Thursday. It was at, I think, 4pm so there was no camping in the room all day. I got there at about 12 and got in the small line. Was in the third row. Now you have to camp out all night just to get where I was. I really miss those days of convenience.
About not getting first row seats, I'm pretty sure those seats right in the front aren't reserved. Yes, there is press seating, but it's a whole section that's off to the side instead of right in front. Not that you would really want the front row anyway since it's too close and there are these speakers that obstruct your view. Three or four rows back is still fine. It's still really damn close.
And yeah, there's two lines in the morning, one for Hall H and one a few doors down (I forget which doors, they all have letter and number designations) to get into the con. From that line you just go straight to whatever room you want and get in the line for that.
Yeah Travis, that would ruin your holding a place in line for wife plan. If you we could be in two places at once. I desperately want to go to Chuck but this is Lost's last year and I've never missed one.
And can I go up a few posts and comment on the necessity of hygiene. Please keep this in mind since it'll make both your own and others experiences better. I don't understand how some people can think they don't have to shower or something. Of course, it's impossible to escape it all around you, there will still be unclean people, but even just one clean person can make a difference. The downside, I could have been in line earlier for Lost if I didn't take a shower. Small price to pay to know you're not the one stinking up the place.

I'm actually taking the trolley to the convention center. The earliest I can take it with one eye open would be 5am, and I'd get to the con around 6am at the latest. I'd then get in line and hope for the best. I really want to get into the Dexter panel, so I'm hoping that being already there I'll get there early in line. It's in ballroom 20, so I'll be sure and mark that on my map on preview night. Thanks for the props on going alone, I've just always wanted to experience this event. I knew that if I went with friends it would be fun, but not my "own" experience so to speak. It's like when you go to Magic Mountain and everyone wants a different ride, while some want to sit, and others already want to eat. This way I can enjoy everything on my pace and take some serious pics my friends. I'm taking 6GB of memory, so I'm ready to roll! I can't wait to see the displays, take pics with people in cosplay, and take pics of my favorite stars. I know that I won't be able to do everything and see everything, but I feel I'm pretty much going to have a BLAST!
Does anybody know anything about the night events? I heard they screen movies and stuff. Also, great tip about the autographs Hanny. Luke Skywalker in the flesh is a real treat, being that Star Wars is classic! Edward James Olmos would be pretty cool to meet too. I wish Hayden was still doing it this year....lol
Is anyone here dressing up? If so what do you go as?
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 19, 2009
P.S. For the Mark Hamill autograph deal, do you take something? Or do you purchase something for him to sign?
Thanks!
written by Rush , June 19, 2009
Newbie, are you asking about the night events at the actual Con (in other words, evening panels, etc.) or elsewhere? Ill try to actually answer both.
There are all night movie screenings that generally run along a theme (slasher films, zombies, last year there was an Alien.Predator marathon, etc.) that are held in different hotels, but the majority of the ones that Ive heard of (doesnt mean there arent others) were in the Mariott next door. The Con site posts the movie lineup about 2 weeks before the event. Now, these are movies that are already out and are fan faves so this is not to be confused with the advance screenings that take place. Unfortunately, I have never seen a list of the movies that they are screening, though it doesnt mean that such a list doesnt exist (Xan Man, can you help me here?)
As for the Con, there are plenty of things after dark like screenings of movies yet to come but you may need a pass. Last year all you had to do was walk downtown and there were people throwing Pineapple Express passes at you. Lost Boys 2 screened last year after the Con with a cool (and by cool I mean completely corny) intro with Corey Feldman and the other Frog brother (dont know the actors name) doing a whole Frog Bros. bit. They also premiered the Wonder Woman animated movie and Next Avengers, to name a couple. In other words, there is always PLENTY to do, even after dark. The Masquerade is on Saturday and I suggest you get your tickets to that if you can. Thats always a good time and there are always cool surprise guests
Personally, I dont dress up but thats only because Im not creative enough to wear something I feel is Con worthy
As for the autograph, Ill be honest here. You probably wont know until you get there whether or not you will need to purchase something. Some signings are pretty much "anything goes". In other words, you can get a pic signed, or your badge, or your shoe, if the need posseses you
For other signings, they might only sign a specific item that they are offering at that time (e.g. last year Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez would only sign the Red Sonja posters they were giving out). A good rule of thumb is to have something small that can be autographed but isnt to hard to just throw in your backpack if they are signing something else. Ive never had anything signed at the Official Pix booth so Im not sure how they do things. They may even have a lottery or something to get a ticket for an autograph. I know that Ill do whatever it takes for Lukes sig and a pic
6GB of memory?! Yeah, you are definitely ready to roll
written by The Xan Man , June 19, 2009
They'll have nice glossy pics at the Official Pix booth. It's just that you have to pay for them. It's like paying for the autograph. I don't know if you can have other things but you'd have to still pay. That booth is not free. Expensive too. I'd wager Mark Hamill goes for $75 to a $100. I would love one though. Edward James Olmos and Michael Hogan as well.
written by Rush , June 19, 2009
Well $75-$100 for an autograph from someone that has been a part of my life for 30 years isnt too bad
Thanks for the heads up though, Xan Man
Other than the screenings announced do you happen to know if there is a list somewhere of advance screenings? I missed out on Fanboys last year and was really upset that I didnt even know it was happening written by The Xan Man , June 19, 2009
I don't think there's any way to know all of the screenings that will happen. A lot of it is up to chance.
written by k10 , June 20, 2009
i think that part of the reason people are now camping so early in lines is twilight actually. i love the con & love seeing things before other people, but there is no way i am going to add to the hysteria of staying overnight or getting in line before 7am. if people stop doing it, then we won't need to do it. besides, last year when i missed the sarah connor panel (totally underestimated its draw; sad because now its gone) i ended up going to some random panel instead and got to see some cool comic movers & shakers instead--you never know who you will see! i take a relaxed approach to the con, and i have an amazing time!
i am sad to see that the doctor who and torchwood panels are not back to back this year though!!! they are probably trying to amp up torchwood's audience, hoping some of the supernatural peeps stick around.
also, last year there were tickets to an advance screening of fringe that was at the nearest movie theatre; just keep your eyes and ears open!!

Xan Man & Rush have offered good advice.
CCI requires the artists in autograph area to sign a single fan brought items for free. If you need something to be signed, like a pic or dvd, they may be selling that item for (usually) a modest price. CCI is not like some of the other "conventions" around the country that have people getting signatures for $75, $100 or more. Most times, those outrageous costs are how those shows pay for the named talent to be there. There are ticket drawings for the biggest artists in the name of crowd control and to be reasonable. There are also those very exclusive signings that are on the exhibit hall floor. Those can be HUGE stars and comic artists.
As for preview night; I decided after last year to skip it for anything more than picking up my badge and freebie bag. It was horribly jam packed and there's no guarantee booths will have items on display. Some of the most elaborate collectible companies have covers over their cases. It's really haphazard on how good the night can be. You may be able to pick up some nifty preview freebie, but it's a taste... a true sneak peek because it's only 3 hours. Heck, an hour of that can be spent trying just to get in! It can help you find that one booth you want to find when the doors open in the morning, a general feel for the exhibit floor and the definition of "masses of humanity". :-)
I have been attending CCI for well over 28 years and strongly suggest pouring over the official site now and in about 2 weeks, the full schedule should be available online and you can really begin your planning in earnest. The con has change a lot in the last 6-7 years since Hollywood has made a bigger imprint. Crowds are bigger, lines are longer, there's never enough time to see everything you want and there's no way to adequately describe the con to someone that's never attended. My best advice: be prepared to wait in lines, have a plan b for that panel you can't get into, see more people in one place than you you've probably ever seen, have patience and respect with all, bring sunscreen, plan on being exhausted on Sunday and most of all- enjoy all that it is!
written by Jen_31 , June 22, 2009
Thanks to all who have been giving advice, as a first time con goer it's very helpful
My brother and I have 4 tickets for each individual day (the 4 day passes were scooped up), and I was wondering if they allow people to pick up all their badges on thursday, or do we have to register each morning? If so, how will that affect our plan to line up for hall H super early on Saturday?
I'm hoping Edward James Olmos & Michael Hogan being there means that a panel on The Plan is definitely going on. Fingers crossed their autographs won't break my souvenier budget, Adam Baldwin's would be shiny too.
written by eserei , June 22, 2009
I hope the Heroes panel is in Hall H right before the Lost panel. Being a fan of both shows, that worked out really well last year. And may I add YAY YAY YAY that there's going to be a Heroes panel!! Hopefully it's for real this time, because the back and forth is driving me crazy.

Like Jen_31, I am worried about the effect picking up my badge and registering on Thursday morning will do to my plans for camping out Wednesday to get into Hall H and get good seats.... How can I do both?
written by Hanny , June 22, 2009
Jen and Alexis,
I think your best bet is to contact Comic Con International via email. I have had the 4 day passes for the past 2 years and just register on Wed night.
written by The Xan Man , June 22, 2009
If you're registered for each individual day you have to pick up your badge each day. It's a pain since I'm pretty sure there's no way you could possibly wait in line and pick up your badge. Not even if someone holds your place since I think badge pickup starts at 9 and they let people in at 8:30. And still, there's the pickup line which can go for an hour, especially if you weren't already waiting in it. Sorry.
written by Jenna , June 22, 2009
Jen,
I think the general rule is that you can only register/pick up your badges for that day, however, last year I was able to pick up my Sunday badge late Saturday afternoon, so you might be able to find somebody that's willing to make an exception. If you get told 'no' once, just go back later and ask somebody else.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that 4-day passes for next year's con should be available on-site. Last year they were $10 cheaper if you bought them there instead of online, but the line on Sunday afternoon was HUGE. I'd recommend buying the pass as early in the week as you can, even if you aren't sure that you'll be going next year; you can always get a refund on the pass if you change your mind.
written by Rush , June 22, 2009
Jen_31, the line to pick up your badge generally lets in before the doors to Hall H open. Once that door opens (the badges door), there is still more waiting to do. I had the same problem because this is the first year that I couldnt get the 4 day pass (I couldnt believe how quickly they sold out this year!) and had to get the individual days so I emailed the COmic Con staff to make sure that it was ok if my wife held our place in line while I picked up the badges. They had no problem with that as long as I had her ID and bar code. I cant remember a single day that Hall H opened @ 830 but maybe my memory is being a bit selective
I do remember that the badge pick up does start a bit before 9, though, unless the people Ive seen picking up badges at that time were professionals or something. Ill keep my fingers crossed for both of us
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 23, 2009
FAMILY GUYYYY!! ALRIGHT!
That is one panel I want to see along with Heroes and Dexter. So can you stay in Hall H and the other rooms for all panels and never leave? I read that on some sites.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Newbie, absolutely you can! If you decide that all you want to do is spend your day in Hall H just plant yourself
They even have food, though its a bit overpriced (Hot dogs around $5, nachos $7 or something like that) in Hall H but youll need someone to save your seat. As for the other halls, you can still stay all day but there arent any refreshments. They dont clear them out between panels
written by The Xan Man , June 23, 2009
Also worth noting that in the other rooms they give out passes so if you have to leave for any reason (bathroom, food, etc.) you can get back in. You just can't take too long. No more than 15-20 minutes. And have someone watch your seat of course.
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 23, 2009
When you say halls do you mean like the 6A and B rooms? I still haven't seen a map of the convention center, so I'm pretty much lost. The cool thing is getting a seat for the panel you want, but the bad thing is sitting through panels you didn't want to see and giving up doing other things you could have done. I will now feel the pain that those speak of when having to give up some events for others. I'm happy because Burn Notice is going to have a panel with Bruce Cambell. That would be great to see as well!
I think Wednesday night is going to be a loooooong night of planning what I'm going to do. I'm going to be sure and make a plan B should all go awry.
Once again thanks to everyone for the tips.

Words to the wise from a long-time Comic Con attendee. This is not meant to be cynical, but a clear view of how the con has grown over the years:
1. If you have individual day passes, you have to go through the registration line each day to pick up your badges. Plan your morning events accordingly, especially on Friday and Saturday.
2. The convention center is five city-blocks long. Hall H is at one end, Rooms 6A-F are at the opposite end, with Ballroom 20 and the registration pavillion approximately in the middle. Plan your time to walk from one event to the other accordingly, as with 150,000 people in attendance it will take longer than you think.
3. Each event will have its own line, all of then lasting more than an hour. That's being generous: multiple hours are the norm. If you plan your events too closely together you likely won't get in. Prioritize your events and be prepared to sacrifice one for another.
4. Comic Com is amazing. My sons and I go every year. We've learned though to make the tough choices when it comes to seeing (and not seeing) what we'd hoped to.
written by Travis , June 23, 2009
Hey guys, me again and still planing. My head hasn't exploded yet so there's hope...
Anyway, as I've said earlier, on Saturday, I'll be in Hall H until 12 and my wife will be in in Ballroom 20 all day long.
I'd like to join her for the V panel at 2:45 ? Does that seem possible ? Can she keep me a seat at the end of the panel preceding the V panel ?
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
Travis, she can hold a seat but only for so long, and you'll still have to go through the line outside. The real question is whether or not you'll get into Ballroom 20 at all. Any event with Whedon alumni in it (and V has two) will guarantee a full house and extra long line.
written by The Xan Man , June 23, 2009
But if you get there at about 12:30 which seems logical, you should be able to get in for V. Last year I got in for BSG (late but still) after Dollhouse (had to miss it, those choices everyone keeps talking about, this was one of them) coming from Lost in Hall H. You'll (and so will I) be able to get in for V, don't worry much about it. It doesn't have nearly as much of a draw (even with Whedon alum) as an actually Whedon show and the last BSG panel before the end.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Travis, Dean949 is absolutely right! I had no idea that the Whedon crowd was so huge! Last year I went to the Dollhouse panel w my sister in Ballroom 20. We got there 2 hours early and still almost didnt get in. Not being a huge Whedon fan myself, I made the mistake of asking my sister why so many people were there just because this guy did Buffy. Wow. The crowd turned on me like jakyls for a minute! Although I gotta admit, I got educated VERY quickly on just what Whedon has done
Sorry, I digress
The point is that there will definitely be a HUGE line not just because of the Whedon fans but its V! Getting in will be hard enough given the fact that they may even show the first part or lots of sneaks at the very least. What you may want to do is have your wife record it for you if you have a camcorder. You wont be able to see the footage but at least you can see the panel. Even if you left Lost directly after the panel (It was Lost that you were interested in when it comes to Hall H right?) that still wouldnt guarantee that you would get in. I know, I know, its almost 3 hours between panels and that seems like plenty of time but you'll see why you wouldnt be guaranteed a spot once you get in your first Con line. I wish you the best of luck, though, and since youre head hasnt exploded so far, you should be okay
If you think you have some tough choices to make now, wait til the schedule gets posted... written by Travis , June 23, 2009
I hope Xan Man is right because missing out on V means missing out on Fringe too, right ?
The Fringe panel is right after the V panel. Does this mean that the line for Fringe will begin when the V panel begins ? This is quite confusing.
I really, really want to be there for the Lost panel but if it means probably missing out on V AND Fringe, I may have to rethink the whole thing. If I will just probably miss V but attend the Fringe panel, that's fine.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
BTW, does anyone have any recent updates? Im not sure what links can be posted here but Ive been getting updates from here:
http://www.examiner.com/x-1250...e-23-2009
Theyve been doing almost daily updates for about a week now. They just announced that Bruce Campbell and the writing team of Burn Notice will be there
If anyone else has any sites that are updating can we start posting them here for each other? If you know somewhere to get some updated info, Id love to hear about it! Knowledge is power and all that
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
Travis, the lines for V and Fringe will be in parallel concurrently since both panels are in the same room, one directly after the other. Here again, making a choice will come into play. The main factor here is the fact that Comic Con organizers no longer clear the rooms between panels. In the old days they did: once a panel was done everybody had to leave to make room for the next group of attendees. Comic Con stopped this practice a couple of years ago. Now people can plant themselves in seats and never leave throughout the day, panel after panel, making it very difficult for folks waiting outside to get in. I don't mean to pick on Whedon fans but they are notorious at this. They'll occupy seats in the morning and hold them all day so that they'll be assured to see Joss and Co. later in the afternoon. No exageration here, I've witnessed it personnally. So I feel for you, buddy. I'll be there right alongside you.

Guess that answered my question...If you Google "Comic Con buzz update Examiner Cynthia Adkins" you should be able to find it

So basically you guys are saying that if you go and see Chuck in ballroom 20 at 10am you can sit through the whole day up until Fringe? Wow! Right now I'm hyped up about Family Guy, Burn Notice, Dexter, and Heroes. I could live without seeing the other shows. I'm more into the movie panels than I am the shows. The shows I would love to see are the ones I mentioned above. It seems that this year is going to have lots of stuff being that it's the 40th anniversary. It's going to be hard to choose, and even more so since It's my first time going. AAAAAAAAAAAH THE PRESSURE!!!!
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Travis, I hope he's right too
You sound like a big fan and I wish you all the luck in the world that you are able to get into both
Newbie, lol. looks like youre getting the picture when it comes to those tough choices
Yes, you can get there for Chuck and stay all day if you choose to. written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Oh, and Travis, missing V doesnt mean missing Fringe. There will be people clearing out, just not everyone. Think of it this way: if the room is full to capacity, and 5 people leave, 5 people that are waiting will be let in. 100 out = 100 in. So if youre waiting in line for Fringe while the V panel is going on and youre reasonably close to the front (Not 2000 people back or anything) then you should be able to get into Fringe when the fans attending the V panel are clearing out. I dont know that Im explaining myself properly so if anyone has anything to add...Xan Man? Dean949?
written by The Xan Man , June 23, 2009
Dean, I'm sorry that we do that, really, I am. But we do do it so be prepared. Especially Friday. Friday is a Ballroom 20 campfest for me. Take into account that Stargate and Caprica will probably be in 20 and it's going to be a beast of a day. I feel bad for Big Bang Theory fans that won't know what to expect.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Lol, at least youre kind enough to admit it and warn others Xan Man
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
Yes, you can arrive in the morning for Chuck and stay all day but its at the expense of the people waiting outside who may only want to see V or Fringe. It happened to me three times last year. Three panels, three lines, and I couldn't get in because too few people were willing to give up their seats.
written by Jen_31 , June 23, 2009
Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully they do start registratio before they let people into Hall H, it doesn't seem right that they would give that big of an advantage to 4 day pass holders. I'll probably fire off an e-mail to the con and see what they recommend. Less than a month to go!

I see your point Dean but I mean, really, isnt that what we're all there for? To come out and show support for those things/shows/movies that we are all fans of? All of us take time out of our lives for a truly memorable experience and of course we want it all! Trust me, I know your pain. Ive had the same thing happen to me but Ill readily admit that Ill sit through a panel or two I care nothing about, but others might, just to make sure I get a good spot for the panel I do care about. Its just the nature of the beast that Comic Con has become. Do you remember when they did clear out the rooms? If you do, you'll remember that people were upset then, too, but because the rooms had to be cleared out. You cant make everyone happy. Its just a matter of planning, Dean. Still, Ill put out some good karma vibes for you and hope youre able to get into your panels too
written by The Xan Man , June 23, 2009
The thing is they can't predict how things will work out. Well, now they can, but a few years ago this waiting all night was unheard of. So yeah, maybe it's time they have a change of rules. Or maybe even just make away with single day passes because those were only beneficial when the crowds were smaller and you could register on site. Now, with everything selling out before a schedule is even up what's the point of individual day passes?
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Jen_31, let us know what they tell you
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 23, 2009
It's a dog eat dog world and if someone sacrifices sleep, food, and going to the bathroom to get a seat and keep it all day, then that person deserves that spot. The rest of us might not like it, but then again we didn't bust our butts. I say if you didn't get in at first THEN YOU MUST PAY THE COMIC CON PRICE! lol I mean, this is a one a year opportunity so we have to make each day count. Especially new people like me who are going for the first time. I have to compete with people who know how the con works and who know all the tips. If it wasn't for people like Xan Man, Hanna, and Rush, then I would be clueless.
If I don't get into a panel, I'll probably get over it after hoping that everyone gets the runs while they are in there....lol I'll then move onto plan B. What this is right now I cannot say, but I will have a Plan A - D, because from what I hear B and C might now work either. =p
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Xan Man, yeah the good ol' days
Yeah they really should just go with 4 day passes but then again, with the one day passes they know just how many people to expect on any given day, especially preview night. Plus, those that missed out on the 4 day and had to buy individual days (myself included this year) wind up paying about $40 more for the entire Con,(which is still a steal in my opinion) so the Con makes some more money and can pay bigger stars to come out. I have a feeling that the old days are long gone my friend. Still, if they could do SOMETHING to let you know ahead of time whether or not you are going to be able to get into a panel. Maybe a sign up @ registration or something? I dont know. I dont have any solution. Even if you had to sign up for panels at registration, you would have people camping out to register. Lol. I used to wish that everyone could understand my love of comics and movies and costumes and all thigs geek, and it seems that that wish is coming true
Its one of those "be careful what you wish for" kind of things
What I find really amusing is that I used to be made fun of because of the things I loved and now those same idiots that laughed at me for being a geek are now dying for a spot at the Con
Oh how the worm turns...Lol. We're the cool kids now
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
Agreed, Xan Man. The system definitely favors the 4-day pass holders. I well remember the first time San Diego fire marshals shut the Comic Con doors because maximum occupancy had been reached. People lined up in the hot summer sun waiting to buy day passes were turned away, thousands of them. It wasn't pretty.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Dean, that was back in '06, right? On Saturday? If we are talking about the same incident I absolutely agree that it wasnt pretty! Actually, if I remember correctly, there were even people that had passes that were turned away, right? Im surprised there wasnt a riot! There were a whole lot of F bombs thrown at the Con staff though...
LOL @ Newbie
Yup
You definitely got it now
You are in the right mindset and should be ready for the Con
We've been talking about lines into the halls and panels, etc. but are you also excited for the exhibit hall? Thats a whole other discussion...
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
Yeah Rush, it was '06. You're right, people who already had paid memberships were turned away. That was the moment Comic Con officially outgrew the capacity of its staff to manage effectively. Everything changed after that. Online registration only, no more clearing the rooms between panels. It was simply easier for the staff to let the attendees stay put in their seats all day instead of herding them out every hour. I've been attending since the early '80s, well before the Hollywood machine moved in and took over the panels. Comic Con as it is today is a barely-contained monster.
written by Dr. Xeno , June 23, 2009
Funny. Comic Con used to be about comics. Now it's multimedia product placement and bagfuls of free swag from the movie studios.
written by The Xan Man , June 23, 2009
I believe 05 was the last year they cleared the rooms between panels. It was my second year and I still remember being overwhelmed. It wasn't until 06 that I got the hang of things. Oh to be young and easily amused by things like the exhibit hall.
written by Rush , June 23, 2009
Dr. Xeno, I agree but you also have to agree that comics have now been completely integrated into multimedia products and people love free stuff! For the strictly comic fans, it is still about the comics. Its about finding that one box witht the golden age Action Comic that we have been looking for or the one issue of Howard the Duck that cant be found in any comic store, etc. However, with comics being so prevalent right now in Hollywood, of course the Hollywood infulence will be throughout the Con. And since the studios have other money making ideas on the burner, of course they want to get that to us while giving us what we want. Its not that its not about comics, Xeno, its that comics arent just comics anymore. Hell, I have an online subscription w Marvel so that I can read comics online! Do I still collect? Of course I do! And Ill be searching box by box for the comics that I need. That doesnt mean that I wont be in Hall H when theyre showing previews of Iron Man 2 or Sherlock Holmes. The studios need to make money and thats what they do. I would love it if their only purpose was to entertain us but its not. They exist to make money. Now if comic movies stop making money, then we will probably see a decline in studios that appear, resulting in less attendees. Until then, you just have to realize that this is the 21st century and comics arent just comics anymore
written by Dean949 , June 23, 2009
I get what Xeno is saying. The majority of vendors in the dealers room don't even sell comics anymore. That's easily verified by looking at the exhibit hall map. I was in a DC Nation panel last year (In one of the smaller rooms) and Kevin Smith stopped by. Himself a filmmaker, he lamented that virtually all of the big rooms in the convention center had been taken over by the television and movie studios, that thousands of fans were packed into them and a very much smaller percentage were actually attending the comic book panels. How many of the posts above are about comic books? Even less.
written by Jen_31 , June 23, 2009
Good news for everyone who was concerned about registering and waiting in line for the panels in the morning. I sent an e-mail in, and with the exception of Thursday, you will be able to pick up your badge the day before hand between 4:00-7:00pm. Otherwise you can register at 9:00am each morning.
written by Dean949 , June 24, 2009
Thanks Jen, you're a sweetheart.
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Ah, touche Dean, touche;-)
Thanks for the heads up Jen! I went ahead and emailed them this morning to get the skinny on Thursday too. I know we cant pick the badge up til Thursday but I wanted to verify that its still possible to get your badge before Hall H even opens. Ill let you all know what response I get
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Ok, just got an email from the Con regarding Thursday. According to the email, they don't know what time they will be opening Hall H on Thursday because they dont know the programming schedule yet but it should be possible (though not guaranteed) to pick up your badge before the doors to Hall H open. What this means is that those that have someone to hold a spot in line for them in Hall H can get their badges and get back in line. If youre by yourself and want to get in to Hall H but need to pick up your badge first, you're kind of out of luck. Youd basically go to the back of the line after picking up your badge
Id make some friends in line to hold your spot while you pick up your badge if I were you...best of luck to everyone!
written by Jen_31 , June 24, 2009
Also, with Twilight confirmed for Thursday you can be sure that *alot* of people will be camped out *very* early. If it were me I'd plan on getting in that registration line as soon as possible to make sure I can hustle back to the hall in time. Personally I'd rather avoid the madness that morning and check out the con, but I'll be making an exception if the line-up for Hall H is too tempting. Thanks for that info Rush

A little update on all the Fox shows
http://www.televisionaryblog.com/2009/06/comic-con-update-20th-century-fox.html
Can I just get a big hell yeah to 24, Bones, and Dollhouse one after another in Ballroom 20?
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Most of these are already up top and some of you porbably already ssumed that some of these panelists would be there but I thought some of you might like to know that 20th Century Fox announced their guests today:
"TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX TELEVISION BRINGS NINE SHOWS TO COMIC-CON
Kiefer Sutherland, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Anil Kapoor, Freddie Prinze, Jr. Katee Sackhoff, Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Stars of “Glee, ” “Futurama,” “Cleveland Show,” “American Dad” Among Those Scheduled To Appear"
There are a few more too...Ill update with any new information that may be useful

Lol. We must have hit "Add comment" at the same time

HEEEEEEEEEELLZ TO THE MUTHA F..... YEAH!!! 24, Bones, and Dollhouse all in one sitting. NIIIIICE!!!! I can't wait! Hopefully they will sign autographs or at least I'll be close enough to see Mila and snap some video.
written by Cinthya , June 24, 2009
Where exactly would we pick up our badges the day before we use our one day pass? The same place or a booth?
written by Dean949 , June 24, 2009
Same place, Cinthya. Registration is in the Sails Pavilion, so named because the roof looks like a bunch of sails from the outside. Upper level of the convention center, midway between Ballroom 20 and Rooms 6A-F.
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Im not sure I understand your question Cinthya...If you have single day passes you register everyday and thats when you get your badge. The registration area is always in the same place. If you pick up your badge on Thursday and want your Friday badge, it looks like they will be able to give you your Friday badge between 4-7 (Friday you can pick up Sats badge and Sat you can pick up Sundays. Thanks again Jen!) and you would simply go back to the same place you picked up your Thursday badge. Does that make sense? I hope Im answering your question...
written by Cinthya , June 24, 2009
Thanks rush and dean.
@dean: cool thanks for the info!
@Rush: I was asking if we could pick up our badges for the next day in the same place as we do normally. I'm sorry if I worded it in a confusing way.

No worries
I probably just read it in a confusing way

another first-timer here...
thanks to all the vets for all the great info, first off. great help to all us newbies, and highly appreciated.
regarding autographs, as i like stuff i can put on my shelf more than things i can hang on a wall or put in a binder, do celebrities sign other-than-flat-paper objects?
specfically, i'm thinking of mark hamill's sig on a nice x-wing or something, and maybe some TNG peeps on the enteprise-d's massive saucer. Zachary Levi on a Buy More mug would be nice, too.
if they do sign objet d'art, should i buy before-hand and bring, or will there be plenty of crap there i can get, at comparable price to amazon or my local grown-up toy store?
massively looking forward to it, although not too much all day Saturday in one seat in Ballroom 20. Any Family Guy/Futurama fans wanna split the day with me and my Chuck/V/Fringe seat?
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Hey Ken
Ok, autographs: It just depends. Ive had stars autograph a shirt and small posters before, but nothing 3 dimensional. I know that the atars up in the autograph pavillion are obligated to sign one thing free, but some of them will only sign the SWAG they are pitching. It never hurts to try though! Getting someone from TNG to sign the Enterprise would be feaking awesome! Last year the only person from TNG that I knew of that was supposed to be there was Wil Wheaton and he didnt show up at his booth when he was supposed to. I dont know if he showed up at all! In other words, good luck with that
From what Xan Man was saying regarding Luke Skywalker's (it just sounds SO much cooler than Mark!) autograph, the booth that will be hosting him is a booth that generally has you buy an official photo for the signature, and they arent cheap. Which brings me to the next part of your question, I would totally buy something to bring to sign. Of course they have things to buy! You could easily put out a second mortgage on your home to get some of the stuff though. It is definitely pricey (though you can get some great deals) and you could make your head explode trying to decide on the perfect thing. On the flip side of that, getting a Comic Con exclusive signed would be ultra cool! In short, plan for the worst and hope for the best
Good luck mang! written by Dean949 , June 24, 2009
If anyone is interested, BSG composer Bear McCreary and his band will be performing a concert of Galactica music at the San Diego House of Blues during the Comic Con weekend. BSG guests are expected to be there.

written by Cinthya , June 24, 2009
Hey,
I was wondering how early you guys think would be safe to line up for the Doctor Who panel?
written by Rush , June 24, 2009
Thats a tricky one Cinthya. By Sunday quite a few people are generally gone and its really the least packed day so it wont be like, say, Saturday, which will be insane. Still, I suggest getting there as early as possible. 7 at the latest but Im one of those people that will absolutely wait hours in line to make sure I get a seat. If youre not one of those people, you may find yourself a disappointed a few times...
written by Cinthya , June 24, 2009
I am definately one of those people. I'd do almost anything to get into that panel. If you think 7 is safe, I'll go at 5.
written by The Xan Man , June 25, 2009
5 seems semi safe, you'll get in for sure, but Doctor Who (and especially David Tennant) will be a big draw. Especially since it's the first panel in 20 that day. I'm unsure of when to get in line.
And Dean, that's great to hear, I hope I can get into that concert. Bear is wonderful and his work on BSG is some of favorite stuff.
written by The Xan Man , June 25, 2009
One more thing is that if a panel you want to go to is going to be later in the day you may not to get there as early as you think. Maybe a few panels before that actual one, depending on big you expect it to be. If you're there with someone else it makes it easier to scope out seats from panel leavers since there will be some between panels. Have one person watch your previous seats so you don't lose them altogether and try and find closer ones. I'm thinking this may work for Dexter. For those who are by themselves, sorry, but this isn't the best of strategies. On the plus, finding one seat is easier than two or more.
Also of note is that last year I was in the very back of Ballroom 20 for BSG and when it ended, amde my way up to about the fifth from the front for Chuck which was right after. Remember, it's always possible to get better seats, it can just be risky if you're by yourself. Make the decision you're most comfortable with.
written by Dean949 , June 25, 2009
Anyone else bothered by Fox's parade of rapid fire 45-minute panels, one immediately on top of another? 45 minutes isn't a panel, it's a sound bite. Logistically it will be very difficult to move that many stars in and out and still have meaningful interaction with the fans. Great for photo ops, not so much for dialogue. "Hi, I'm Katee Sackoff. I just joined the cast of...Oops! Gotta go. Love you!" Feels like Fox has orchestrated a 2-day-long infomercial.
written by The Xan Man , June 25, 2009
You're entirely right Dean but the fact that there is no break between them makes me think they're just being joined together in one super panel. Kind of like how some production companies do all of their movies at once instead of individual panels for each one.
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 25, 2009
I still can't get hyped up about everything yet, because I still have to see the movie panel schedules. I may have to give up seeing some of the shows for the movies. That sucks, but then again, it is what it is. Hopefully the movie panels will be later on in the day, doubt it though!
written by Dean949 , June 25, 2009
"Super panel" is right, Xan. Ballroom 20 will fill up by 10 in the morning and, for the most part, relatively few people will give up their seats for the rest of the day. Fox knows it has a captive audience, and the super panel looks to be designed for maximun product placement. Great for Fox but short-changing the fans who actually want the time for Q&A with the stars, devaluing the fans who paid to be there in the first place. Maybe I'm being cynical but it smacks too much of opportunism on Fox's part.
written by Rush , June 25, 2009
I was thinking the same thing Dean but Xan Man makes a good point. My main problem with panels that short is that we only get to see a few minutes of footage instead of, say, the next season opener so if theyre are just doing an entire day of Fox panels, maybe we'll get more...
Newbie, Lol, very true
The movie panels start at 10 like the rest of the panels and the majority (if not all) of the movies panels are in Hall H. These are generally very cool, in my opinion. Last year Hugh Jackman showed up out of the blue to show us the first trailer for Wolverine. It was amazing! I wont comment on the movie itself, but the experience of having him show up out of nowhere (hell of a nice guy by the way), talk to the fans, give props to the creator and show us all our first glimpse of Gambit was absolutely wonderful
Also, you kind of get excited for things that may be a little...less than desirable by the end. Example: I was at the Max Payne panel and was ready to sell my soul to see the movie once it was done. Yeah. THAT Max Payne. Still, the panelists were cool (I love me some Kunis!) and they cant help what the movie became. Its always fun though. I think everyone has that one "can't miss" panel. This year, mine is Iron Man 2
If anyone hears any updates as to what time and what day they are presenting it PLEASE let us know! written by The Xan Man , June 25, 2009
Yeah, but very few shows show the season opener. I can only remember Heroes doing it last year. The only other time there's a full episode is if it's a series premiere. So long as there's a few minutes of clips and then they jump right into Q and A then I don't see what's so wrong with 45 minutes. Last year they showed half of a new ep of Bones and got down to the Q and A with like 30 minutes left. It was plenty of time. Especially for a show like that or 24 which aren't like, say, Lost which generates question upon question.
written by Hanny , June 25, 2009
Rush, I was at the Hugh Jacman appearance. What a surprise and what a sincere and respectful man. This year you have a PJ appearance for District 9, which probably means additional panels for The Lovely Bones and possibly a Hobbit panel with some casting news. On top of that James Cameron will most likely be showing some Avatar footage on the same day of the Twilight panel.
In addition, you have Iron Man 2 which you can carve into stone making an appearance, the much rumored Johnny Depp for The Mad Hatter and a long shot of an appearance from Brad Pitt for Inglorious Basterds. Fox and Brolin for Jonah Hex, Sherlock Holmes, and I would thinkg Zack Snyder will be promoting his new upcoming movie. Now they have announced the Star Wars Spectacular with the promise of breaking news and announcements. One would assume the much anticipated live action tv series will be talked about.
This is just the tip of the Iceberg. This Con is going to be out of this world

BTW, great question about the Indigo Room Nicole. I have absolutely no idea where that is? I don't know that I have ever been in it and if I was, I apparantly was having such a good time that I don't even remember
Xan Man, Dean, either of you know where the Inidgo Room is? If you can't get an answer here, Nicole, the Con site posts a map of the hall when it posts the schedule (hell, the map may already even be up but I couldnt find it) and thats the best time to plan everything out. The actual Convention Center site also has a viewable map here: http://www.visitsandiego.com/meetingplanners/groundlevel.cfm
Just click "Room Viewer" and you can see the center floor by floor and room by room. Hopefully this helps. If not, hopefully Xan Man or Dean may have a better answer

The Indigo Room is inside the nearby Hilton Bayfront Hotel.
written by Dean949 , June 25, 2009
I haven't heard of the Indigo Room either. I'm stumped, it doesn't show up on the convention center map. Sounds like it belongs in one of the sleazier hotels near the waterfront.

Thanks Jenna! written by Nicole , June 25, 2009
Thanks everyone :-)
Rush, I've been checking out that map on the convention center website for days now. and every time I look at it I realize more and more how not in shape I am and how screwed I'm going to be.
Advil will be my best friend for a weekend.
written by The Xan Man , June 25, 2009
To let everyone know how bad things get and to put some of the things I'm talking about in perspective, if you look at that map Rush posted, when waiting for Lost last year I was at about the very tip of the plaza triangle by the road. Keep in mind I got there at about 4am and that the line started at the Hall H doors which are the first set of doors at the front of the center. It only got progressively worse as there was a line zig-zagging through the plaza and then down the road.
written by Dean949 , June 25, 2009
Advil, plus VERY comfortable walking shoes. Last year I had to buy a new pair there in San Diego as the shoes I brought weren't cutting it. Keep hydrated and take time to eat (even though food in the convention center costs a king's ransom and the lines are quite long). Above all, pace yourself. If you try to run from panel to panel you'll burn out quickly.
written by Rush , June 26, 2009
Nicole, lol, yeah Advil is definitely something that you should carry around
Don't know if youre a meat eater but I would also suggest maybe a bag of beef jerky or some trail mix if youre not a meat eater. Itll help keep your energy up. Also, Ive really been into those vitamin waters lately and they seem to give me that extra boost I need and if youre not too much of a water drinker, this is the best way to go (in my opinion, of course. Everyone has their own favorites
) The absolute most important thing to remember, though, is that you are there to have a hell of a lot of fun! Getting stressed about getting here and there is understandable, especially your first Con, but really, if you miss a panel that you wanted to see or you dont get that one piece of SWAG that you wanted, I promise you'll be okay and all the better for it next Con
Your first Con is defeinitely a learning experience and you should look at it that way. You'll have a blast as long as you do
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 26, 2009
How long do the autograph drawings take? I noticed that last year some autographs were by lottery. Is it a huge lottery? Like the first 300 people called or it like 50 people only? Is it by winning number or do you draw from a hat and if your says winner you get to go? I've wondered if it is even worth giving up a panel to try my luck at a drawing.
written by Nicole , June 26, 2009
Thanks Dean and Rush,
I currently just bought a new pair of walking shoes last weekend. I've been wearing them everyday and I've been walking around the perimeter of where I work (It's almost a mile to walk around), so I think I'll be good on that front.
It's the eating and keeping hydrated that I'm worried about. I didn't think about the beef jerky one, I bought some granola bars to take along but I know I'll need more than that.
I'm staying at the Holiday Inn on the Bay, and are there any grocery stores/pharmacy's that are closer to there than say the Convention Center? I'm trying not to check my luggage, so I want to be able to find somewhere to buy water and other snacks I can't carry on the plane with me.
written by Dean949 , June 26, 2009
Nicole, there's a Ralphs supermarket near the center of the Gaslamp Quarter, just south of Horton Plaza if you've got a San Diego map to reference. It's in walking distance to most of the con hotels. Lots of attendees shop there and keep food and water in their rooms.
written by Rush , June 26, 2009
Newbie, it really depends. And even beyond the signings you know about, there are secret things that only a handful of people hear about and are lucky enough to attend and those are by pure dumb luck. You could be waiting in line for a panel and suddenly someone will come up and ask you to pull a ticket out of a bag and BAM! suddenly youre face to face with the cast of Drag Me to Hell, or something equally as big. Some lotteries can offer 50 (maybe not that small a number but you get the idea) some 300. It just really depends and I wouldnt count on trying to seek these things out. Youll waste time you could be spending elsewhere and you may wind up empty handed anyway. When you say "autograph drawings" are you asking about these lotteries or are you asking about having a drawing done by an artist? Example: back in 07 there was a variant cover of Fallen Son that was completely blank simply so that you could take it to the Con and have one of the artists sketch a cover on the spot
It was pretty cool. These are artists that know what they are doing and they can do in 30 seconds what might take someone else an hour. So, if by "autograph drawings" you mean getting a sketch from an artist (and there are PLENTY to choose from) it doesnt take too long at all. If youre asking about the lotteries, it takes too long to find them to try. Now in the Sails Pavillion, which is where teh not-so-secret signings occur, it depends on who you want to see. If youre trying to get an autograph from Fat Momma from Who Wants to be a Superhero?, chances are that you can walk right up and not wait for a single second. If youre trying to get, say, Jason Mewes's autograph, youll have some waiting to do. I keep going back to Rose McGowen and Robert Rodriguez because that was absolutely my worst experience getting an autograph. The staff wasnt very organized, the stars werent on schedule and there were WAY too many people for the amount of time given. You couldnt even line up for this one. I was one of the first ones waiting and the staff decided that, rather than a line, we should all be herded into a blocked off area, where there was no line or order. Basically whoever could push their way up front was teh next person in line. I waited 2 hours and missed a panel that I really wanted to see just for this experience. Lesson learned. So, just keep in mind, it can be very easy or it can be pretty frustrating. The Con site will post a list and dates/times of teh autographs that will be in the Sails Pavillion and it should be up a little before the schedule is realeased, which should be about another week and a half or so
Nicole, Ralph's is in the downtown area (over on G Street, I believe. It shouldnt be too far from the hotel) so youll be good on that end, and there are also a few drug stores around the convention center. Bonus: youll save quite a bit of money by bringing your own food

Hey, just wanted to give a heads up. Obviously we have our badges already but if you know someone that is still looking for one the Con site is offering badges again, while supplies last, though its through Ebay. Go here:

And those badges are gone, just watched the last Sunday go.

Being a newbie I'm kind of already mind boggled. I'm forced to make hard decisions, while at the same time going crazy with all the cool stuff that will be present. I want to see the movie panels, the tv panels, play some new video games, take cosplay pictures, and get autographs. I still have to eat and go to the bathroom, so it's all too much for one plate....lol I mean you watch the videos on youtube, but then again it's not really like that, because you don't have time to see everything due to the fact you are in lines or rushing to an event. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH The insanity!
4hrs is not enough for me on Preview Night....lol I'll be running from booth to booth trying to do some recon and make sure I know where to line up the next day for panels. I bought my 4 day pass back around the end of January, so I'm lucky to have one. I hope I'm as lucky with the panels. I'll be sure to come back and post how it went.
Once again thanks to the vets for all the tips!
P.S. I heard about after parties and stuff, but I don't know which are the best ones. I saw that the Suicide Girls are having one, but I'm not too familiar with who they are. Have any of you guys been to any party by them? Which is the best after party event to go to?
written by Rush , June 26, 2009
SUCIDE GIRLS ARE HAVING A PARTY?! I havent been to one of their parties and dont know if theyve done it before but if youre anything like me, you wont want to miss it!!! When and where? Thanks for the heads up Newbie! Ok, now that Ive recovered from that little bit of news, are you male or female Newbie? The Suicide Girls are a group of absolutely beautiful goth/pinup girls. Think Betty Page with tattoos and piercings. Depending on whether or not you have a desire to simply gawk and whether or not youre the type of person that is into beautiful tattooed, pierced women, you may definitely want to check that out! If youre not that type of person, the best thing to do at night is going to depend on what kind of person you are. You seem to be a bit of a fanboy(girl?) and the movie screenings after hours are pretty fun. As I mentioned somewhere up there the masquerade ball on Sat is also a really great time and is free, but you need to secure your ticket and seat pretty early. If you cant get in, though, they air it in the Sails Pavillion live, and you can hang out w fellow attendees. Some of the coolest things, though, are the fan parties at different hotels
If you get to know your fellow attendees (just start talking to the person next to you at a panel or in line
) you will hear about a party here or there at different hotels and since those arent moderated by any sort of authority figure, those can be a wild time and fun for all
If youre still young enough to drink all night and still have energy for the Con the next day without a hangover(Im not, personally...thats on my Murtaugh list) then these are the parties to attend. There are also hotel parties that wre just as fun without the regret the next morning. There are just so many things going on after hours that I cant really even start to list them. Thats just when it comes to the Con and the attendees! Downtown San Diego is an absolutely fantastic place to be and there is always something going on there too. Are you staying at a hotel near the Con? The reason I ask is that if you are at a hotel that is packed with other attendees, Im sure youll stumble across something
And, trust me, 4 hours for preview night is PLENTY. If you can survive it, the rest of the Con will be a piece of cake
written by Rush , June 26, 2009
Ok, just checked out the SG info. The party that they are talking about is hosted by The Brotherhood but the vip area will be hosted by the SG. Ive heard of The Brotherhood parties but have never attended. Xan Man? Dean? And heres a link with the info for all interested
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/837677/
written by Dean949 , June 26, 2009
Haven't been to any of the parties. We usually prowl around the Gaslamp after hours since the street scene at night is very different than it is during the day. Hyperkinetic like the con but with lots of bars and clubs and street cafes mixed in.

Warner Brothers has now announced their movie panels and its FANTASTIC:
Warner Bros. is leading the pack of studios announcing their line-up, starting on Thursday, July 23 at 3:30PM with the first-ever 3D Presentation in Hall H of the fourth chapter of the horror franchise The Final Destination with producer Craig Perry on hand.
The studio's biggest presentation will take place on Friday, July 24th between 10:15 AM and 12:30 PM with most of their biggest movies including Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, The Hughes Bros.' The Book of Eli (starring Denzel Washignton), Platinum Dunes' relaunch of Nightmare on Elm Street, Richard (Donnie Darko) Kelly's The Box (starring Cameron Diaz), as well as presentations for Jonah Hex and Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. No word on the talent attending but going by past WB presentations, they should have most of the filmmakers and hopefully a lot of the cast from all films as well. (If you're attending, you'll want to get in line EARLY for this one.)
Lastly, Robert Rodriguez will be holding a special presentation and Q & A for his new family film Shorts on Friday at 1:45 in Room 6DE.
written by Jen_31 , June 26, 2009
Wow, pretty interesting looking panel on Friday. I'm curious about how they're planning on juggling 6 movies in 2 hours 15 minutes though. How risky would it be to try to catch this and Dollhouse at 4? Oi, I'm betting this is gonna conflict with the Caprica panel as well. Definitely going to be some tough choices to make (but in the awesome sort of way).

In response to Rush, I'm a dude. I checked out the Suicide Girls and even though I'm not into the goth type girls, a lot of them are hot! It's going to be cool to meet some of them and take pics, but I'm more hyped about seeing Megan Fox at Comic Con. Which brings me to the question of entering the Convention Center. Is there one entrance or can you go in through various doors? I saw on the map that it has various entrances.
written by Rush , June 29, 2009
Newbie, kind of figured you were a guy but didn't want to insult you just in case
Yeah, the Suicide Girls are seriously hot! The few that Ive met are super sweet and totally approachable too
Youll definitely see Fox for Jonah Hex but who knows how close youll actually get to her. She seems like the type that couldnt be bothered with anyone not super attractive or super rich, though. Shes ridiculous hot but I cant see her sitting around discussing comics or really anything that doenst have to do with her. I hope you get a chance to meet her and I hope Im wrong and shes a total sweetheart
As for entering the Center, there are a couple different entrances and which ones will be open will depend on what time youre trying to get in. When they first open the doors for registration, there is one doorway that is open and people go in through it, and up the escalators to the Sails Pavillion where you register, then wait some more. Hall H is generally the next door open but that leads to Hall H and Hall H only. Once the Con is officially open, pretty much every door will be open for entrance
written by Dean949 , June 29, 2009
Most entrances are open as long as you present a valid badge to security. Some doors are for specific use and can't generally be accessed. When you go to pick up your badge in Registration, for example, there's only one route in.

Hey just wanted to let you guys know that some of my friends do an internet show all about geek culture and the verse, The Ugly Couch Show (www.uglycouchshow.com). They just did a special Comic Con episode, "HOw to Survive San Diego Comic Con", check it out. For newbies it's great and for those more seasoned veterans, it's a laugh
This is only my second year attending comic con but last year was a blast! I only went to two panels though (Torchwood and Dr. Who), I think it was just a little too much for me to spend all that time in lines when I could be on the floor checking out everything else. For those who have never attended, make sure you give yourself some time to check out the floor especially for those who like to collect things from their favorite shows. Don't get me wrong I plan on spending more time waiting in line for panels this year, but last year I got to pick up some items that have long been missing from my collection so that now this year I can see those ever exciting panels. And don't forget, if you miss a panel you might miss out on some exclusives but the interview portions of the panels can be found on Youtube later that day
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 29, 2009
Great video for newbies. I think they broke it down pretty well. Thanks to the people on this page, I already knew pretty much the tips for a newbie. Hopefully they will have an autograph session with Megan or at least I'll have the chance to see her walk by....lol
It does suck to know that for some things you may just waste time in line and never actually get to see anything. I mean having to wait in line for a chance to be in a line is just nuts. I mean imagine losing 2hrs in the whole process. That can throw you off your plan. I am happy that at least we get freebie bags to hide the pain.
written by Rush , June 29, 2009
Newbie, lol, seriously
Its even worse if youre a collector. Mattel and Hasbro (I think theres one more but I cant recall who) actually have a line that you need to get into to get a ticket to stand in line on the floor. They only give out a certain number of tickets for each time slot, too, so you could be in line to get in line for hours. I almost made that mistake once trying to get an exclusive My Little Pony for my daughter. Thank god for Ebay
Deeb makes a couple of good points, and thats actually why I was wondering about whether or not you plan on hitting the Exhibit Hall. Personally, I love the Hall. Yes, the freebies are cool, but just soaking everything in is quite an experience as well. Its really the only place you can get that many people together in one place with (virtually) no fist fights. Its a nice vibe going on throughout and by buying your ticket, youre a part of that energy. Its nice being part of something bigger than yourself
You owe it to yourself to take a stroll down Artist Alley and meet some great artists. They may be unknown now but 5 years from now, who knows? The studio booths are crazy busy but are usually pretty cool. Ive really dug the After Dark booths the past couple of years. Are you a comic collector at all, Newbie? If you have those two or three issues that youve been looking for, guaranteed youll find them here. Lol. A fantastic thing to do when youre getting a bit winded is take a trip up to the Sails Pavillion, grab a seat and just people watch
Trust me, you wont get bored
When you get back, Newbie, youll have to let us all know how it went
written by Comic Con Newbie , June 29, 2009
Trust me! I'll have lots to say when I get back....lol I'll give you a newbie's point of view. However, once again thanks to you and all those who contributed in helping me out with my first visit to the Con. I think no matter what happens I'll have a blast, because just being there will make it worth while. The sexy ladies of comic con help out a bit too, should I be sad about missing something....lol I will check out everything, because that's what this trip is all about. I want to see everything there is, so ask to make the experience fulfilled. I have a feeling I'm going to get lucky with a lot of things, so we'll see how it all pans out. I'll keep you guys posted. For now I know we have some good movies and good panels in the works. Maybe we will all end up in the same panel.
written by Rush , June 29, 2009
LOL!!! Yes, Newbie, the ladies do help out QUITE a bit
Especially the ones that havent quite learned that a Comic Con costume and a strippers uniform are two completely different things;-) Oh Im sure there will be quite a few panels that we'll all wind up in
My name is actually Rush so if you see some guy walking around wearing a badge that says "Rush" (maybe in a Wonder Twins t-shirt...), by all means, say hello
Youre absolutely right that no matter what, youll have a blast. If youre not having fun, youre doing something wrong. Ill tell you this much; since you're by yourself this trip (again - mad props! Definitely the way to go) your chances of getting lucky in everything youre trying to do are definitely better than those that are with a group. To be honest, I have pretty high hopes for you myself
Im thinking you'll do just fine for a first-timer
P.S. No worries on the info
Thats what we're here for! written by Veta , June 29, 2009
Hey guys, sorry to bother you again. I see that there's a way to meet Stan Lee for 300 bucks through Desert Wind Comics, and I was wondering if this is because that's the ONLY way to see him there or if he might be doing autographs as well. I know that sounds cheap, but I have no income at the moment and I'd also like to see him AND the Dollhouse thing if at all possible. If not, well, X-Men shaped my entire life (watched TAS as a kid), so I'll find a way to cough up the money.
written by The Xan Man , June 29, 2009
Usually there's a Stan signing somewhere that's free of charge. I think he's too nice of a guy to not just give out autographs. That said, I've been to a party with him before. Probably one of the coolest guys ever.

I'll definitely be in ballroom 20 Friday as well. BSG, Caprica, and Dollhouse? That line up's not to be missed.

NEED THE PROGRAM SCHEDULE!!! I'm getting all hyped up about the shows, but I need to know which movie panels will be there, because from what I've heard I have a feeling that I will give some show panels up. I just hope that on Sunday I have time to just hang out and look at booths.
written by Dean949 , July 01, 2009
Word to the wise, Newbie. Booths can often be picked-over by Sunday. The best merchandise doesn't last that long.
written by Rush , July 01, 2009
Good call Dean!
Newbie, hopefully itll be up within the next week or so but you'll definitely have it before the Con. Is there a particular movie that youre waiting for? The WB panel looks like its going to be pretty awesome (Im a sucker for Sherlock and Freddy). There have been unofficial announcements dripping in little by little. This site seems to have the most info on teh WB stuff so far:
http://movieblog.ugo.com/movies/san-diego-comic-con-2009-movies-preview
Personally, Im also stoked for the Disney presentatoin
Cant wait to see some Alice in Wonderland!!! written by Jen_31 , July 01, 2009
Rush, has Alice in Wonderland been officially confirmed? That's one of the panels I'm most excited about. If the rumours are true and Johnny Depp is there, well, that'll be the icing on the cake.
Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canucks! I'm off to hit up the festivities downtown
written by Rush , July 01, 2009
Jen, not offically but the speculation is so great that it would REALLY surprise me if we didn't get it. Burton will (supposedly) be @ the Con promoting 9 (which is rumored to have a full screening at the Con) and Depp is also in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which will have a presence so Im thinking that its fairly likely that both of them will be there. Ive had the pleasure of meeting Depp once and he is one of the coolest guys ever. Even if he werent JOHNNY DEPP, Id still want to hang out with him
Also really looking foward to the panel for Mike Judges newest, Extract
That should be a really funny panel full of sarcasm and hi-larity
written by Rush , July 01, 2009
Oh, and happy Canada Day Jen

Thanks, Canada Day was great
Cool stuff about meeting Johnny Depp, was it at another promotional event?
written by Rush , July 02, 2009
Actually, it was by complete accident. I happened to wind up at a wrap party for a band called Dogstar (in and of itself a strange story) and he happened to be in attendence. I actually didnt recognize him until the person I was with pointed him out and introduced me. Very cool guy and definitely one of those "How the hell did I wind up here?" moments

Comic Con Newbie would love to have a moment like that with Megan Fox.
She's gorgeous!

Lol, Newbie, you and me both!
written by cotton , July 03, 2009
I've been reading everyone's comments for some time now about Comic Con and this will also be my first time going and everyone has provided great tips and what to look out for. Has anyone been to The WB booth and if so do they give out tickets to autograph signings or is it first come first serve? I'm hoping that the cast of Chuck will be at the booth for a signing (since they were there last year although they had the signing before their panel) and have deliberated about whether I wanted to attend the panel or try to get autographs and the autographs won out even though I know it's not guaranteed. Thank you for all your tips about the convention. I'm super excited and I cannot wait!
written by Alexis , July 03, 2009
Anyone know where's a cheap, close place to park overnight near the convention center?
written by Dean949 , July 06, 2009
Alexis, unfortunately nothing is cheap in San Diego during Comic Con. The entire downtown area jacks up prices on just about everything during these four days. Even parking lots.
written by Rush , July 06, 2009
Cotton, Ive been to the WB booth a few times and I have gotten autographs from Big Bang Theory and all you had to do was show up. Unfortunately, with autographs, it can go either way. Since Chuck is such a big thing right now, theres a good chance that they will limit the amount of autographs, either by lottery or by time (i.e., you may have two hours to get teh autograph) so no one can really tell you which way will work out best for you. Personally, I would choose the panel over the booth. At least if youre at the panel you can take pics, see new footage, and listen to the actors, who can be very funny
Plus, if youd like, you can ask the guests questions you might have regarding the show. Lastly, sometimes its much more of a headache than its worth to get the autographs. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and have a great time! written by cotton , July 06, 2009
Thanks Rush!! I'm super excited about going and cannot wait. I might be dead tired by the time the entire convention is over (the 26th) but it will be well worth it. Looking at everyone's reply to Comic Con Newbie has been a real treat and it really has made me super excited. My cousin is more excited about the Twilight stuff, but I'm just going to bypass that one.
Thank you again!! written by Rush , July 07, 2009
No worries
If youre not totally exhausted by the end of the Con, you did something wrong;-) Im one of these people that takes three days off work after the Con just to recover
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 07, 2009
15 DAYS LEFT!!!
I wish I could take days off, but duty calls. I will have some great stories I'm sure, because being a Newbie will just put me in the category of great stories automatically. I'll be sure and let you guys know all the good and bad I went through my first time attending this great event. I can't wait for the program schedule to be released. Right now I'm actually debating autographs vs panels. I've been thinking a lot about what I've read and I think I will have to love the person 100% in order to actually risk not seeing everyone else and their panels just to get an autograph. It's a tough choice, but if you have the chance to meet Johnny Depp or Megan Fox, then screw the panels! However if I don't get the autograph and don't see a panel, I'll end up depressed in the DC search for talent panel....lol
Once again thanks to all that answered questions and your welcome to those who thanked me for asking the questions....lol

Hey, I just heard a rumor that the Con isnt allowing anyone to sleep overnight in line, and that the earliest you can get in line will be 12am. Im trying to either confirm or debunk this rumor, which was passed to me by a member of Twilight Moms. Now, this is the only source that I have heard it from, and I have looked high and low for confirmation. For all I know, it could just be a rumor that started by someone that just wanted to improve their chances of getting in. If not, maybe it is only a Thursday only restriction, considering New Moon and Avatar will both be in Hall H. If anyone can find any info either way, could you let us know? Thanks in advance
BTW, Gene Simmons and his son Nick will be @ the Con this year w Radical Publishing, and it looks like Gene might be be performing at the Hard Rock Cafe w some special guests
Anyone else out there a mega KISS fan and superpsyched about this?! Radical Publishing Booth #3735

Like always great news Rush! Avatar is going to be as big as New Moon at the con. I heard that the footage is amazing and that the 3D experience is even more killer. If it's true that you can't sleep overnight, then that's great! It means if you line up at 4am or 5am, then you have a chance. What's 5hrs in the dry San Diego heat right? It would be cool to meet Gene, although I would have preferred his wife or daughter to accompany him. Will check out the booth!!!

Lol, seriously Newbie
Shannon Tweed would be absolutely fantastic to meet in person
So you were asking a few days ago about events outside the Con. Here is a site that has quite a few events listed. Its a long address, though, so if it doesnt show up, Ill just have to post the whole thing

No overnight lines, huh? Okay, I just sent an e-mail to the Con and will be waiting to hear back. Rush, you always have up to the minute news and from a Twi Mom no less. LOL
Thanks again! I'll confirm back once they e-mail back to me. written by Jen_31 , July 08, 2009
I hope that the no overnight waits rumour is true, it'll help even the playing field a little. The Robot Chicken skate party sounds like loads of fun (can't believe it's free), anyone else planning on going?
2 weeks guys!!!

Well, we finally have confirmation, Tim Burton's making his first trip to comic con this year
I was doing some late night googling and found some tid bits. Alice in Wonderland will be a part of a 3D presentation from Disney on Thursday, along with Tron, along with Tron, and A Christmas Carol. No mention of Johnny Depp being present, but the article doesn't mention any actors at all, so I suppose we can hope that we'll hear about them later. http://www.advfn.com/news_Walt-Disney-Studios-Motion-Pictures-Comic-Con-Agenda-is-Full-of-Firsts_38571742.html
9 will be holding a panel on Friday in Hall H, an autograph signing, and possibly a full screening at some point.

Thanks, Cotton, I guess I should have thought to do that
Lol. And thanks Jen! I love confirmation
Those are some good ones too! I knew about both but neither was confirmed. I dont know if you guys have seen anything about 9 (if you are anything like me, youre all over this) but if you havent, do yourself a favor and check out the trailer. This is going to be fantastic! I am really hoping we get to screen the entire movie
The Con is always epic but this year is looking to be legendary! BTW, why the hell isnt the schedule up yet?! Grrr! Im sure itll be up by the end of the weekend but its killing me!!!
written by cotton , July 09, 2009
Still no confirmation from the Con about overnight staying. If I hear anything, I will definitely post it.
Thanks Jen for that one. Alice in Wonderland seems very, very cool and I might check it out if I can get to it on Thursday with all the Twilight craziness that will be going on over there. written by cotton , July 09, 2009
Looks like official schedule will be up sometime between 12 and 1pm today. Yay!!!

Just read that its only Thurs thats up
Got too excited to read for a sec written by Comic Con Newbie , July 09, 2009
It's official!! We will all be zombies in line for the Disney and Avatar 3D Panels. You can count on Comic Con Newbie to be there. I should just put a paper on my backpack saying that huh? COMIC CON NEWBIE IN DA HOUSE! lol Anyways, It's time to prepare to not sleep a lot Wednesday night. I might check out V on preview night, but who knows. Thursday looks good! Can't wait for the rest of the days.
written by Jen_31 , July 09, 2009
Yup, there will definitely be a zombie factor on Thursday. But it'll be worth it
What time do you experienced comic con goers recommend we get in line? I'll be really disappointed if I miss that Alice panel.
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 09, 2009
Hella early! Due to the fact that we are competing with the New Moon freaks!
written by Jen_31 , July 10, 2009
Lol, yeah, the Twilight fans are what have me worried about getting in.
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 10, 2009
Twilight Fans scare me!!! You know things are bad when you have Twilightmoms.com It's going to be warfare out there. You have 5,000 of us that want to see Avatar and possibly Johnny Depp VS 1 Billion girls who want to see a vampire. We are outnumbered my friends, but fear not! One of us will eventually get in....lol

FYI
Almost every panel at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con is held in the convention center, in one of the main halls. Ballroom 20, for example, is a sizable room and a lot of shows are having appearances there.
Friday will see Ballroom 20 hosting panels for Stargate Universe, Caprica, BSG: The Plan, 24, Bones and Dollhouse. (Hmmm… I think I know where I’ll be all day Friday.)
So, you’d think that a big show like Heroes would be somewhere around Ballroom 20, or in one of the side rooms that aren’t all that small either…
At least that’s what I thought they’d do. Every now and then, I’m wrong. There, I said it.
Heroes will indeed have a panel and Tim Kring, Jack Coleman, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, Robert Knepper, Dawn Olivieri, Ray Park and Madeline Zima will be in attendance.
Sounds cool. But to attend the panel you will have to leave the convention center and head off to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, and find the Indigo Room. Yea, it’s off-site from the convention center.
I don’t get it. We can surmise that maybe someone goofed with logistics, or that the network might be focusing on other things. I don’t know.
But they will be there.
The Heroes panel will be in the Indigo Room on Saturday, July 25th at 3:15 p.m..
written by Rush , July 10, 2009
Yeah, traditionally the Heroes panel was in Hall H but since they dropped the ball and didnt sign on for a panel until it was too late, they got what was left over. Im actually a little upset about that. It seems to me that a show that has a hard core comic fanbase and that owes most of its success to the Con would appreciate the fans that it has left enough to immediately want to sign on. To me, the lack of devotion indicates that they really arent too concerned with the fans at this point. Either they are getting ready to cancel it or they really dont care. I am still a huge fan and I was superpsyched to see the season premiere, as thyeve done every year, but oh well.
As for the Twi-crowd, Im feeling REALLY hopeful and heres why: Most of these fans are teenage girls and it will be their first time attending the Con. I dont know if anyone else was keeping track but they still had plenty of tickets on the day that New Moon announced that they would be doing a panel on Thursday, then POOF! Thursday was sold out. Im still planning on being their by 4am at the latest because there is NO WAY I will miss that Alice panel. In my mind, those girls will show up about an hour or two, maybe even 3 or 4, before the panel, which is around 3, I believe. In other words, Im hoping for the classic newbie mistake (Not you Newbie
Im feeling confident about you). Im keeping my fingers crossed... written by cotton , July 10, 2009
I don't know about the little Twilight fans as they can be very persistent and possibly even make their moms camp out for them or a few of them will camp out holding lines for all the other gobs of Twilight fans who will be screaming their way into the convention. Jen's right, they scare me. LOL
I'm hoping that Thursday will mostly be the Twilight fans so that they will mostly be at the Twilight panel and then flood their way to other Twilight related stuff so that the seasoned and new Comic Con attendees can have a shot at going to other panels. Rush, if you want, my cousin will be camping out for the Twilight stuff and we will save you a spot so that you can come after 4am. You said you're going to be in a RUSH T-shirt, right?
written by Rush , July 10, 2009
Cotton, probably a Wonder Twins shirt or something as equally nerdy
Thanks for the offer, and I may wind up taking you up on it! If it turns out that people are going to be allowed to camp out the night before, Im SURE that my wife will be right there anyway. Shes already bought a tent for the occasion
If not, that would work beautifully and I would definitely be willing to bring some Krispy Kremes and Starbucks for the favor! Thanks for the offer either way and I guess we should know fairly quickly if thats going to be the case. Cotton, that is really really supercool of you to offer
Thanks! written by cotton , July 10, 2009
Not a problem. As long as we're not holding up the line for a whole bunch of Twilight fans, I'll be happy to do it. My cousin will be the main person camping out and me and her husband are going to be switching throughout the night so that we can get some type of sleep. I don't know when to begin our camping out so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
We'll have snacks galore that you can share as my backpack will be filled with snacks and my camera. LOL Send me an e-mail at carol dot poo dot liu at gmail dot com and I'll get more info for you Rush. Wonder Twins, huh? I have not heard of them, but I'll check them out. LOL It's all good. On Saturday I'll be in my Nerd Herd T-Shirt from Chuck.

written by Comic Con Newbie , July 10, 2009
Looking good, although it's going to be a tough ride to juggle Ballroom 20 and Hall H. It sucks even more because I have to take the trolley to the convention center and the earliest I can get there on TH and F is 5:51AM. Hopefully that will be enough time to secure a good spot. Sat and Sun are going to suck, because I can't get there until 6:21AM, so we'll see how that goes. For now Comic Con is looking great. I've already made a Plan A & B for both nights. If I don't get into the first planned panels, then I have a backup. If both fail, then don't be surprised to see me taking pictures with every cool costume that walks by, because thaaaaaaat's all I can do after plan A & B fail folks! lol It will be booth lookin and picture takin day.

Hey did anyone notice the updates to Thurs sched? The Twilight panel was moved up to 145 and theres now a 3D Showcase w Cloudy with a Chance..., Final Destination and The Hole @ 1245, both in Hall H so it looks like that my finger crossing did nothing to help
Hey Newbie, where are you staying? Im over at the Worldmark on Camino Del Rio. If youre on the way, I could always give you a lift
My email is RushUrbalejo at yahoo dot com. Hit me up if you know the address youre staying at and maybe I could swing by... written by Rush , July 10, 2009
Actually, there have been quite a few updates to Thurs sched, including Avatar and Kick Ass. I suggest checking out the updates to change your plan accordingly
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 10, 2009
Thanks for the offer Rush, but I wouldn't want to impose. I do appreciate the thought though! You are truly a cool dude! As for the updates, I think they did that so they could get rid of all the Twilight fans and have the real fans who want to see Avatar check it out. If Avatar would have gone first, then most likely 70% of the crowd would not be a fan and would probably walk out as soon as the vampires had their say. This would then be drama to let in the actual Avatar fans and it would waste time. Since they know we all want to line up for the same gig, then they will make the window of opportunity bigger for those who couldn't get in earlier.
written by Jen_31 , July 10, 2009
Newbie, how far away from the convention center are you staying? I was planning on taking the trolley as well, but now I'm thinking it might be worth it to grab a cab Thursday morning. Quite a few people are probably counting on taking the trolley there, and are going to try to be on that first train, so there might be a wait to even got on one to get down there. Not to mention with so many people waiting for the transit system to start, think about how many people you'd beat by getting a cab there earlier! That's what I'm going to try to talk my brother into anyways. I've already explained that getting into that Alice panel Is. Very. Serious. Business. About the Twilight fans, I'm sure alot of them will make that newbie mistake of showing up late, but a good chunk of them will have done their research, and that'll still be a lot people folks. I agree about wanting to be in both main rooms at once on Friday....*sigh*, the things I do for you, Joss.
written by Rush , July 10, 2009
LOL@ Jen
Yeah the things we do for those that entertain us and getting into Alice is definitely Very.Serious.Business
Personally, Im looking foward to that panel and the Iron Man 2 panel more than ANYTHING else at the Con so...Good call on the cab ride too! To be honest, the thought that the trolleys would be packed never even crossed my mind. No worries Newbie
You have my email address if you change your mind and if you do, I could always meet you at an A&P or something if youre a little more comfortable with that
Its almost here everyone! AHHHHH!!!! written by The Xan Man , July 10, 2009
FYI, I think everyone is underestimating the Twitards. Last year, they began camping out a day ahead of time. I'm pretty sure that was the first time they'd ever been to the con too. Also, I think it's going to be ridiculous the way they react since the damn thing doesn't even have it's own panel. It's sharing an hour with two other things. And there aren't even any cast members listed as being there. They're gonna be working themselves up over nothing.
Also, it screwed up my Thursday schedule since I wanted to go to Avatar and thought I'd be able to but now there's no time between that and Dexter which is a bit more up there on my priorities list. I also would have liked to go to the Disney 3D panel but that would require copious amounts of camping just for that one thing. If it were Disney then Avatar it'd be completely worth it but as is, no. And I really wanted to see Tim Burton.
Friday is fine though. I knew I wouldn't be able to see District 9 (and really, just Peter Jackson in general) already and I'm ok with that because, well, Joss Whedon.

When do the Comic Con shuttles start running in the morning?
written by Dean949 , July 11, 2009
For everyone using public transportation, rememnber that Thursday and Friday are regular work days for the folks in San Diego. You'll have to contend with the many who depend on public transit as well. Be cool and considerate. It's not okay to make someone late to work just so you can get to a panel on time.

Boo! for having to choose between that and True Blood.

Hello all! I just found this page today and all of your comments really helped answer a lot of my questions as a first time Comic Con goer.
I have individual tickets for each day. Does any one know anything about how that line works? Where it is? How early I should get in that line? (I was told by one man that to be at the front of the line I would have to campout overnight)
Getting excited! I leave in a week...
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 12, 2009
Ok, maybe it's me, but has anyone seen what's going to take place between Lost and Extract in Hall H on Sat? There is a 1 and a 1/2hr gap. I can't believe they are going to have Iron Man 2 and Heroes at the same time. That just sucks! Won't be able to see Family Guy either in order to make it for Iron Man 2. BOOOOO!!!!! It seems that the weekdays had the better selection....lol
My real goal though is to see Megan Fox and possibly take a pic with Olivia Munn.
10 DAYS LEFT!
written by Rush , July 13, 2009
Hey Mrs. C
You cant miss the line to register in the morning. I believe its entrance G but I cant recall off the top of my head. That door opens a little earlier than the rest. Basically you go inside, up the escalators, and into the Sails Pavillion to register. After you register and pick up your badge, you get in line to get into whichever area you want to get to. I beleive the Exhibit Hall opens @ 10, though it may be 9. As for how early, its really up to you and what you want to do that day. If you arent in a hurry to get to any panels or anything, 8 or 9 will be ok. If youre trying to make a panel, you may want to get there as early as possible. Also, itll depend on how youre getting there. If youre doing public transportation then you will have to go by their schedule. If you plan on driving and parking, I would be there by about 6, as by 8 or 9 the parking lots are pretty much full and its hell driving anywhere NEAR the convention center. Lol, Im sure that if you camped out you would probably be one of the first to get your badge but then you are just waiting again. The registration line isnt nearly as intense as the Hall H line, which I always suggest getting to HOURS before your panel. I hope this helps but if not, just let us know what else you need! Good luck and have a great time
The Con is definitely an experience
Newbie, Yeah I saw that too. Between now and the Con there are going to be updates and Im assuming they kept that slot open for a panel that still ahsnt been confirmed or something. I cant imagine that they would just have a gap of 90 mins...We'll know more and be able to see it more clearly once the programming grid is up. Lol, I agree that this year the weekday programming is TONS better than the weekend programming, although Kids Day means I get to just stroll through the Con for my final run
BTW, best bet for getting a pic of Megan is going to be the WB Panel with Jonah Hex and Im sure there will be a couple of photo ops with Olivia after the Iron Man panel, though if not, at least youll get some pics of Olivia during the panel. Good luck!
written by MrsC , July 13, 2009
Rush, thank you so much for your help. I really want to go to the Disney 3-D panel on Thursday (Tim Burton!), but I am a little scared of the 13 year-old girls haha. I do have friends with 4-day passes who are going to brave the Twilighters and get in line overnight (if that is even allowed)
Is there a chance that I would be able to get my badge the morning of, and then join them in line before the doors open? What time would you all reccommend getting in the badge line if that is my plan?
I'm so glad I found this site. You all rock. Only 8 more days!!
written by Rush , July 13, 2009
Mrs. C, no worries
That Disney panel is one of my "must-see-or-die" panels so I feel your pain
As a matter of fact, the four-day passes sold out so quickly this year that Im in the same boat as you. Still, there is hope! The registration line is the first line to get moving. In the past, theyve opened the reg doors about an hour (maybe a little less) before the Hall H doors open. In other words, if you are at a reasonable position in the registration line, and your friends that are holding your spot are in a reasonable position (and hopefully not first, just in case) this shouldnt be a problem. Especially since the first Hall H panel is @ 11 am. The rest of the Con should be easy, though, considering it looks like you can pick up your badge for the fowllowing day between 4-7 the day before. Thursday is really the only problem, and it should still be pretty cool. If your plan is to get in line w your friends after getting your badge on Thurs, I would suggest getting there by 7 at the absolute latest
written by swqueen , July 13, 2009
Does anyone know what time the shuttles run? Do they run all the time or do they have specific schedules? I looked on the comic con website but I didn't really see anything that said when they run. I'm trying to figure what the best way is going to be to get from my hotel to the convention center early in the morning to get in line. Thanks in advance!!

Found what was going to be added in the gap....
12:15-1:15 Solomon Kane— From Robert E. Howard, the legendary creator of Conan and Red Sonja, comes Solomon Kane, the epic tale of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself challenged to pick up his sword once again to vanquish an evil so great it threatens the world. Anchored by a star-making performance from James Purefoy (Resident Evil, Rome, The Philanthropist), Solomon Kane is an action-packed, dark and intense story directed by Michael J. Bassett with a stellar supporting cast, including Pete Postlethwaite, Max Von Sydow, and Rachel Hurd Wood. Appearing in person are writer/director Michael J. Bassett and Solomon Kane himself, James Purefoy. Hall H

written by Comic Con Newbie , July 14, 2009
I am reaaaaaaally bummed that I cannot get an autograph from Meredith Salenger. Why did they put her on Friday afternoon??? WHYYYYYY????? Why not Sunday?? For those of you who were growing up in the 80's you may remember her as Lainie(This is how they had it spelled on the net) from Dream a Little Dream. The movie was as corny as can be, but hey! It's FREAKIN LAINIE!!
That seriously sucks, but when it comes to Lainie vs Megan Fox and Jennifer Connelly....SORRY LAINIE!

This is going to be my first time at Comic Con - my husband and I have passes for Saturday only, and we pretty much just want to see the Lost and V panels - our plan was to fly down Saturday morning (flight gets in at 9am). Obviously getting a good seat at the Lost panel would be impossible, but is it likely that we won't be able to get in at ALL if we don't get there until like 9:30? As long as I get in there, somewhere, that's good enough for me, but I'm wondering now if we still need to try to fly down the night before and get in line earlier.
Also, if we go straight from Lost at noon to Ballroom 20 to line up for V (at 2:45), will we have a shot at getting decent seats? I'd hate to have to pick and choose between the two!
written by cotton , July 14, 2009
Bonnie, 9:30 might be too late, but who knows?
written by Rush , July 14, 2009
Hey Bonnie
Unfortunately, flying in at 930 will NOT get you into Lost @ 11 am. Going from the Lost panel, which ends at 12, to V @ 245 is technically possible, but not very probable at all. Saturday is the busiest day of the Con and you are trying to get to two of the biggest panels of the day. Heres the part that really sucks: say you get out of Lost and run over to V but arent able to get in. You have now lost out on whatever else is in Hall H that day (Iron Man 2!) plus, youre left outside of V. If I were you, Id definitely try to decide what the important panels that you want to hit are then go from there. As much as it sucks, you will probably have to choose between the two. The best way to do that (in my opinion) is to check out what else is going on in the room that day. So, look at the entire Hall H schedule for Sat. Now, look at all of the Ballroom 20 panels for Saturday. Which room has more panels that you are interested in? Id go for that room. If at all possible, I suggest that you fly out the night before, either way. Youll still have to register before you can go in and, again, this is the busiest day. Good luck with whatever you choose! written by Dean949 , July 14, 2009
Echoing what Rush said, Bonnie. Even if you fly down the night before you still have to go through the registration line to get your badges Saturday morning, and the Sails Pavilion (registration) is nowhere near Hall H. The line for Hall H will be impossibly long by then. There's no other choice though: you have to go through registration first.
written by Rush , July 14, 2009
I actually just reminded myself of something. If any of you decide on Saturday that maybe you need to take a walk downtown, or want to go off Con to eat lunch, or even if you forget something in your car, keep in mind that it is very possible that once you go out, you wont be let back in until the Fire Marshall says its ok. In other words, do your best not to leave the building unless necessary. They WILL turn you away, if its reached capacity, badge or not! This is only a problem when it reaches capacity but given the attendance the past couple of years and how quickly it sold out this year, its very possible that itll happen. It would suck if anyone got stuck outside because they needed to go out for a smoke or something...
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 14, 2009
I DON'T CARE! I'LL CRAP IN MY PANTS!! BUT I AM NOT MISSING THE IRON MAN 2 PANEL ON SATURDAY! lol
I do hate having to compete with Lost fans, being that I myself do not care for the show. However, one must get there as early as possible. I'm a newbie too, but I've learned that the early bird gets the panel when it comes to the con. I'm going to be out there around 5:30am, and that is still late in COMIC CON FREAK TIME. Good luck!
written by bonnie_281 , July 14, 2009
Thanks for the info - so ouch, it sounds like I'm going to have to choose one after all.
I think someone mentioned above that they could get in line for Hall H while their significant other went to pick up badges for the both of them (is that doable?) - it looks like the line for Hall H is outside - I'm guessing since the line for Ballroom 20 is inside, we wouldn't be able to do the same thing, as we'd need our badges to even get in line? written by Rush , July 14, 2009
LOL@ Newbie
Dude, I hope I get to meet you @ the Con
You crack me up
written by Rush , July 14, 2009
BTW Newbie, no worries on keeping your pants clean...there are restrooms in Hall H;-)
written by Rush , July 14, 2009
Bonnie, that is definitely ok to wait in line and go pick up your sig others badge as long as you have the bar code and their ID. The line for Hall H is outside but the line for Ballroom 20 is right outside the Sails Pavillion, which is where you will be going to register. So you could always register then run over to 20. Luckily, that line doesnt start forming until the registration line lets in so you should be ok on that end
written by Dean949 , July 14, 2009
Yes, Hall H is the only line that's outside. All other lines are inside the building and you'll need your badge prior. You generally have to show ID to get your badge, as the the badges are non-transferable. Your significant other may not be able to pick up yours.
written by bonnie_281 , July 14, 2009
Cool, thanks Rush. I don't know if my husband will even want to be waiting in line at the crack of dawn, so if we don't do the Lost panel then maybe we'll just fly in that morning and head straight for Ballroom 20 once we get our badges. Thanks for all the info, this was very helpful!
written by Jen_31 , July 14, 2009
Bonnie, I'm fairly certain that someone here e-mailed the con and they were told they could pick up for someone else if they had that person's ID and barcode. I definitely agree that the Lost panel will be pretty competitive to get into...if you're not keen on getting there *really* early, your best bet is probably the V panel. Even still, that one will be popular as well, so you'll still be stuck in line for a while.
I've got another newbie question for you guys, does anyone know how ugly the non ticketed group sigings can get? My brother is a big Felicia Day fan, and meeting her is one of his top con priorities. She's signing with the Guild on Thursday from 3:00-5:00, and he wants to see the Avatar panel, which gets out at 4:15. I told him that's probably a long shot and he's better off waiting until Saturday when she's signing with the Legend of Neil from 6:00-7:00, but he also really wants to see Iron Man 2, which goes to 5:00. If anyone has any advice I can pass along to him, that would be super cool
written by Dean949 , July 14, 2009
There shouldn't be a problem, Jen. The size of the signing lines depends on the artist's popularity. Felicia Day isn't a "name". She's got an internet fanbase but most of the people at the con won't have any idea who she is.
written by bonnie_281 , July 14, 2009
I think we're going to just shoot for the V panel at this point - we'll fly in that morning, get our badges, and get in line for Ballroom 20. I'll probably see how the line for Hall H looks, but I'm guessing we won't have much luck. Kind of a bummer to go down there for the day and not be able to see both panels, but if I get to see the V panel I'll still be happy.
written by Jen_31 , July 15, 2009
Thanks Dean
my bro will be happy to hear that. written by Comic Con Newbie , July 15, 2009

FYI for anyone taking the transit system. You can purchase a daily pass for $5 from a bus driver or the trolley station and that is good all day. You can use it for the buses(excluding premium) and the trolley. It drops you off right in front of the con, so take advantage of it.

Here's a link to some of the stuff that the studios are giving away. The Capcom Resident Evil shirt looks very, very cool!

Has anyone heard back from the Con regarding the overnight lines? Ive emailed them twice with no response...
written by Dean949 , July 17, 2009
I thought the city prohibited overnight lines (i.e camping). I don't think the Con organizers have any say in that.
written by cotton , July 18, 2009
Hey Rush,
I've e-mailed the Con about it as well (twice) and they still have yet to let me know. I'm having my cousin check with the Twilight mom's to figure out what they might be doing and if I hear anything, I'll report back.
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 18, 2009
Is anyone planning to write daily updates on here while they are over there? I don't mean live from the con, but rather while at home or hotel or wherever you are staying. I thought it would be cool to drop a line or two discussing the days events. I hope they don't camp out, because it would sure help a lot. I also wanted to know if I could take sandwiches into the con, anyone know the food rules?
written by cotton , July 18, 2009
Hey Newbie,
They offer free wifi at the con so I might update as I'm standing in line. As for food goes, yes you can because I've heard from people that did go that they brought sandwiches. I'm bringing PB&J because it will be easier and some other snackies.
written by Dean949 , July 18, 2009
Agreed that you should bring what food you're able to. It's astronomically expensive in the convention center and you have to stand in long lines to get it. My son waited an hour just to get a hamburger.

Another newbie here... I have a pass for Thursday only so I have to pick up my badge day of. How long are the lines to pick up badges first thing in the morning? I won't be waiting several hours to get my badge if I arrive at 9 am, right?
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 19, 2009
Cool deal Rush! I'll be posting a daily update at the end of every day. Just to let you guys know how the day went and what was good and what was bad. Hopefully it will all be good! lol 3 DAYS LEFT!!
written by cotton , July 20, 2009
@Becky - It looks like you might be able to pick up your pass the day before (in the afternoon) from reading everyone's comments here. 9am might be too late to get into anything you might want to see so you might want to give the day before a shot and see if that would work. It's not guaranteed, but it's still worth a shot. Good luck!!
@Newbie - Cannot wait to see your posts here. Unfortunately, I won't be bringing a laptop (as I'll have lots of snacks and my camera in my backpack) so I'll rely on my phone to allow me to do a couple of postings.

Wow this camping out overnight and different lines is intense. Comic Con seems pretty useless in terms of tips. They basically say get there as early as you can to get into the Twilight Panel. But what does that mean? 2am? 5am? 7am? I'm also concerned that since I need to pick up my badge the day of (Thurs) that I won't be able to wait in the line to get into Hall H. Does anyone know if that's true? I just want to know what time do I need to start lining up (and which line?) to get into the Twilight panel?
Also, will there be parking available if I get there by 5am? And how hard is it to get a cab (calling one) at 4:30am? I just have no basis for making a decision since I'm a newbie and it seems like this will be mayhem.
written by Becky , July 20, 2009
@cotton Okay, that's really discouraging, ha. The main thing I NEED to see is the Dexter panel in Ballroom 20 at 5pm. If I get in line for ballroom 20 at 10am shouldn't that be enough time to get in?
written by Dean949 , July 20, 2009
Shannon, mayhem is the word. The better prepared you are for it, the better you'll fare. It's my belief that Comic Con outgrew the capacity of its organizers years ago. It's now a barely-controlled juggernaut riding its own unstoppable momentum. As many of the veterans have posted above, getting into your panels of choice is an "every man for himself" proposition. My older son and I will be there same as every year (we actually go for the comics, not the tv and movie promotions. Yes, there are a few of us left) but my younger son has decided enough is enough. Last year was the end for him; he won't be going back.
written by Comic Con Newbie , July 21, 2009
I think that 10am line making for the 5pm Dexter panel is a sure thing to get you seated at the front....lol I myself want to make the Dexter panel as well, so hopefully I'll make it!

SEE YOU GUYS TOMORROW AT PREVIEW NIGHT!!
written by Rush , July 22, 2009
ITS FINALLY HERE!!!!!!

Have a great time everyone and be safe!
See you guys @ the Con tomorrow! (missed out on Preview Night but Ill be there in spirit!) @ Cotton, make sure to email me your Starbucks requests;-)

I saw on a Twilight forum that you should get in line at 7pm the night before. This is just insane. Why don't they have this at a larger venue to avoid these issues? I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided to book a flight and buy a 1 day Thursday pass. I just figured I'd get there early (7am) and get a seat and enjoy the panel but it is far from that simple.
Now my friend and I are arguing since she doesn't want to go that early and the whole thing is becoming very stressful. Since I came out here for this event I may have to split up with her and just wait in line crazy early with the Twi-hards. I have no idea what to do at this point. It makes no sense that you cannot get your Thursday passes today. Why wouldn't they want to alleviate some of the crowds and make things run more smoothly?

HELLO ALL!! Ok, let me break down preview night. First off everyone was right, security does not know anything! 5 people will all tell you different things. I managed to end up in the second wave going into the exhibit hall and was first in line for that. I got the Harry Potter bag from WB and the Vulcan blue hand glove which was cool from Paramount. I then cruised around and managed to take pics of the cast of the Guild(which I never heard of) and I also snapped some shots of Tyrese Gibson while he was signing his Mayhem comic. I got lots of cool swag and had a fun time.
Ooook!! For those of you who were at the Disney panel, WE JUST SAW JOHNNY FREAKIN DEPP!!! How cool was that of him to come out in the end? I knew he would show up! It was worth getting to the Hall H line at 5am. I was like number 250 when I got there. I met some cool people and we all kicked it for the 4 and half hours it to took to get in. I must say Alice in Wonderland looks good and will be something interesting to watch. A Christmas Carol was a reaaaaaaaaal letdown and is something I am going to skip at the movies. I thought the clips sucked and it just was not a Christmas type deal. Then you have Tron, which looks kick ass! The footage was cool and it was good to see Jeff Bridges. I didn't care for the Cloudy w/a chance of Meatballs, The Hole, or Final Destination. The 3D graphics were cool, but I could have done without them.
As for the Summit panel, WTF! How do you have Kristen Bell just basically come out and then leave. They made the Astro Boy and Sorority Row panels move quickly just to get New Moon in. Which by the way OMG@the fans! They are crazy, annoying, scary, and ask the dumbest questions as those of you that were there witnessed. Moving on to Avatar, which was supposed to be my highlight, WHAT A COMPLETE LETDOWN! The graphics were AMAZING and the 3D kicked ass, but the story itself and the characters were waaaaaaaaaaay on the other side of what I thought I was going to see. I thought I was in for some Halo vs Aliens type movie. Not a blue sea monkey who fights giant insects. Like I said, the graphics were INCREDIBLE, but not my cup of tea. It was great to see Sigourney and the rest of the cast, but I actually left that panel once the footage finished, because that was it for me.
I then moved on to Dexter and was in line for about 20min, until I realized that I was not going to get in. I then moved on to the autograph booths and the exhibit area. GUESS WHAT!!!??? I GOT TO SEE LAINIE!! aaaaaaaand I got to talk to her for a bit. It was really cool and I had a blast talking to the old stars who were signing away. I also took pictures with a lot of cosplay attendees and that was basically my day. I am now ready to crash and start all over again tomorrow.
Shout outs to all of you who are currently attending!

Hey Newbie, great to hear about your first day experience and it seems like you are getting around without much trouble.
I missed the HP bag they were giving out but I saw the Chuck ones and I'm going to try to get that one. It has truly been a blast and I cannot wait for tomorrow. I know today hasn't passed yet but tomorrow is going to be the big day for me. LOL Keep having fun and looking forward to more posts by you and Rush.

WHAT A DAY!!!!
Ok guys, here is the deal for Friday. I showed up at 6am to make line for Hall H and guess what? I was like #150. I was surprised that there weren't that many people in line. I was soooooo happy and shocked, because it was a huge difference from the previous night with the Twilight crowds. I sat in the 5th row behind the hearing impaired reserved seats and was in front of all the action.
I met some great people in my row and had a blast. Where The Wild Things looks good, but I'd have to actually see the whole thing at the movies to review it. From the clips they showed it's good. I thought that the jokes and scenes were good.
Moving on to The Book of Eli. What else can I say, I got to see Denzel and Mila and even though the movie doesn't look super good, I'll probably still see it. I loved the part where he quoted his Training Day character when someone yelled out Denzel you are bad ass! Gary Oldman was also a bonus and was a crack up.
Nightmare on Elm Street...All I have to say is LEAVE CLASSICS ALONE!!
The Box! Ok, for those of you that heard Cameron answering someone when they asked if she would marry them, that guy was one of the guys I met and he was 2 seats away from me. When she said the movie was great, I was the one who yelled out, "No you're great Cameron!" That's when she said is that my husband again? and the guy next to me said, "No, he's 2 seats down." lol I had them like right in my face when they did the press shots.
Now for the highlight for me. MEGAN FOX!! If you all saw the guy who stood up and said Megan will you wave to me, that was me. I recorded it and have her waving to me and blowing me a kiss. I'm also the one who yelled out Megan your amazing and had her say thank you. That is taped as well....lol I envy the guy who she gave her name card to, BASTARD!
Anyway, I was dying with Josh Brolin's comments, he was funny!! The movie looks freaky/good, so I'm sure I'll watch it. My row was the row that yelled out Goonies to him....lol We had a riot in our row.
Sherlock, I was so busy recording Megan walking off stage that I didn't even notice when Robert walked out and started waving to the crowd. The guy is just awsome and a real treat to see. That panel was hilarious and Robert was great. There was a moment where he just stood staring at us. It was funny, because there were 4 of us looking through this girls camera lens and then he stared at us and just stayed that way. If you guys saw when he did that, it was at us. He started laughing because I said DUDE! He's looking right at us!! Crazy panel and the movie looks AWSOME!! Really funny scenes and really good old action.
Disney animation panel, Well what can I say? Even though I didn't know the magnitude of status or even who Hayao Miyazaki was, it was a pleasure to see him. The film clips look great and Ponyo was interesting. Hope to see it later.
9, JENNIFER CONNELLY is all I can say. I actually waved at her when she looked my way and she waved back. That was awsome for me!! I'm also the one who yelled out Labyrinth when they were talking about older movies she was in. She's gorgeous. Dominic Monogan was actually in the row in front of us watching the 9 panel. All good panels!
Ok, who did I see? CHECK THIS OUT!! God was on my side today. I saw Gene Simmons and his son walk right by me and I taped him saying hi to me. I saw Seth Green signing autographs and taped him saying hi. I saw Kiefer Sutherland signing autographs and snapped some pics. Emily Deschanel walked right by me on the way into the Fox booth for signings and I filmed her. I also filmed Eliza Dushku while she walked by me for her signing at Fox and I said you look beautiful and she turned to me and said thanks while smiling. I GOT THAT ON TAPE!! How cool is that. I also saw Edward James Olmos, the guy who plays Freebo on the Friday movies, and took a pic with 6 Suicide Girls. I also took lots of pics with sexy characters, cool ones, and even the Obama impersonator. LOVED FRIDAY AT THE CON!!!

oh yeah! The WB bag you get with the ticket from the panel has a Springwood High T-shirt, a The Box keychain, some Jonah Hex tattoos, Final Destination Sticker, and a White Out clip.

Anyone have any tips for sunday? My gf got sick and won't be able to show up so it's just me by myself on sunday, I'd like to check out the smallville panel but other than that I don't have any OMG i have to see panels. I'd love to just be able to walk around the rest of the day. Anyone know how early I'd have to get there in order to get seats to Smallville? 6 am? earlier? Anyone planning to go to that too? I'll be dressed up as mega man if anyone wants to meet up. Brown mega men are probably not that common. Anyways thanks for all your tips. Next year definitely going for the four day instead of just sunday because it's cheaper, sad I'm missing out on chuck , hopefully I'll still be able to get some goodies from the wb booth. Hope you are all enjoying comic con!

What up everyone! Here with the Saturday update on my day. Well I woke up at 3am and was in line for Hall H by 4:30am(After taking a shower, getting ready, and buying breakfast to go at DENNY'S. I was in line and was DYING! I think that by the third day of doing non-stop lines, panels, etc.... My body was just jacked! I'm not really into LOST, but enjoyed the panel. I was there only for Iron Man 2.
The Solomon Kane movie looks interesting, but reminded me a lot of Willow for some reason with certain scenes, however in a darker and more violent sense....lol
The Extract panel was good, but the movie is not really my cup of tea. It was cool to see Jason Batemen though.
The Zombieland and 2012 panels were interesting. I really enjoyed seeing Woody Harrelson! He's a trip! The movie itself I would not pay to see, but to each his own.
Then came IRON MAN 2. All I have to say is OMG! The trailer and footage they should is freaking awsome. It looks like this Iron Man will be better than the first. The entire cast except for Mickey and Gwenyth were there. The footage like I said was AMAZING! It looks kick ass! They gave out tickets, and what I ended up getting for that was a Stark Enterprises shirt and a small poster. I LOVE YOU SCARLET!!!
I couldn't stick around for Kevin Smith, because I just had to eat. I needed fresh air and food. I ate and then walked around and once again managed to grab some cool stuff, snap some great pics, and see more stars!
I have had the BEST TIME EVER!! I have been truly blessed to have experienced all that I have experienced. I met a lot of people, had great conversations, and even ended up meeting a very talented and sexy girl who drew a sketch of me, and if you're wondering, YES I GOT THE DIGITS....lol I'll post a list during the week on what I learned, tips for next year newbies, and what the con meant to me.
Have fun tomorrow!

Sunday update here. Well I was at the con only until 2pm, because I was really tired by then and wanted to go home. I just wanted to see Jennifer Love Hewitt and by God did I see her. I managed to film her up close and tell her she looked gorgeous. She then turned and said thank you. Aaaaaww.....Well worth Sunday! lol That's pretty much it. Took more pics with cosplay and then split. Was a great experience and one that I will never ever forget.
